Embrace Side 4 - Track 3. Solace Of The Red Giant

Arguably one of the most striking and forward-thinking albums to come out of the bass world this year, KOAN Sound's second album Led By Ancient Light is a sublime opus that says so much so with so few instruments. Just focusing on the cello and piano (and of course their mind bending studio techniques), the Bristol duo conjure up an OST-like narrative that ricochets us around their entire palette in such a dizzying and raw, emotional way. From the frenetic insistency and life-melting crescendos of 'Achorite' to the soul-exfoliating pace and tension of 'Exigence', this album is a genuine work of art. Even more so now it's available on vinyl, too. Truly exceptional.
