Description
The original version of this recording was identified as a "super disc" by the legendary Harry Pearson, founder of The Absolute Sound. The 2 LP set offered here is the sought after 45rpm Classic Records 180gr reissue, cut from the original master tapes. These discs are recorded on one side and are truly of demonstration quality.
As for the performances themselves, we have the great Soviet/Russian conductor Kiril Kondrashin and Toscanini's own RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra. It was recorded in New York City shortly after Kondrashin conducted Van Cliburn in the 1958 prize wining Moscow concerts. As the liner notes say, this recording unites the "three big K's of Soviet music: Kabelevsky, Khachaturian, and Kondrashin.
Kabelevsky's "The Comedians" and Khachaturaian's Masquerade Suite are peformed here. As if the "three big K's of Soviet music" were not enough, the outstanding sound quality of these LP's is the result of the much respected collaboration of Richard Mohr (producer) and Lewis Layton (recording engineer).
