Kool Keith's two-part saga, now newly mastered for wax by Davide Bassi, captures the Bronx surrealist at his most feral, flicking between spaced-out tangents, dense punchlines and basement level boom-bap. The setlist is stacked: 'Steroids', 'Bob Boss', 'Animals In The Projects' and 'Running For Congress' all throb with Keith's off-plot, entryist aspirations, as he preps the boosters on a big false flag campaign as impolite police commissioner: "I'm detrimental to your house like a restaurant with rat turds", for example. With brand new cover art by Alejandro Torrecilla and pressed across double vinyl, this reissue lets the full weirdness and brilliance of The Commissioner breathe properly for the first time.
