Description

TCHAIKOVSKY 'SYMPHONY NO. 5 IN E MINOR, OP. 64' 1966 STEREO LP.

JOSEF KRIPPS

CONDUCTING

VIENNA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA.

First pressing released on Decca SXL 2109.

ED1 WBg "Original Recording By..."  label.

This is not in the best of conditions and if you are looking for an EX or better copy this is not for you.

Overall play grades as VG- although at times it is close to EX.

There are no sticks or jumps or evidence of groovewear and all the musical passages play clearly and brightly.

However both sides do have background crackle.  This is not too loud, and in many places is at quite a low level, disappears behind the louder passages but it can still be heard in the quiet passages.

Also, and more importantly, there are 'tics'/'clicks' in places across both sides.  The worst groups of these are midway through side 1 where they are 'clicks' which last from about 14 mins to about 19 mins and on side 2 from about 2 mins to 4 mins the last few are quite loud. There  a few other 'tics'/'clicks' in groups of 3 or 4 across both sides.

The labels have no wear around the spindle holes but there are quite a few spider lines tight to the holes so has been played a lot.

When tilted under normal lighting side 1 has a diagonal, light scratch 3cms. long, near the edge [just responsive to touch] whilst there is a 6cm. scratch [which IS responsive to touch] across the last band. Side 2 has a 2cm. scratch [which IS responsive to touch] near the end of band 1 at about 4 o'clock and also a 3cm. scratch at about 1/2 way which is in 2 halves.

Both sides also have quite a few needle line, light scratches and surface marks.

Under halogen lights both sides have quite a few more light marks visible on both sides.

 Sleeve grades as VG.

FFSS inner grades as VG.

I dispatch records in brand new, bought in mailers designed for the process. Before placing in the mailer I take LPs out of the sleeve place both in a polysleeve and between two card stiffeners and if there is a picture sleeve I place the LP in a plain sleeve to prevent knifing of the picture sleeve. [all this costs £0.80/single LP].

I USE RECORD COLLECTOR GRADINGS AND USE A +/- WHERE I FEEL THAT IT'S APPROPRIATE.

(M) MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as sealed or unplayed should be mint.

(EX) EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of being played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging may have slight wear and/or creasing.

(VG) VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

(G) GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

(F) FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

(P) POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

(B) BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
