Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1
(Decca SXL 2172 UK LP 1960)
This is a UK original ED1 Stereo LP pressing. It has a front laminated flipback sleeve. This has an extremely thin spine. The "spine" text is on the rear sleeve next to the spine. The top & bottom flipback have a die-cut rounded area at the centre. There is a printers date on the bottom flipback (R.S. 2.60). This means that this sleeve was printed in February 1960. It comes with its original company "FFSS" polythene-lined inner sleeve.
The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has ED1 Decca labels. These have the "Original Recordings By" text on them. The labels are grooved also. The record has 1st press ZAL-4563-2D and ZAL-4564-1D matrix stampers.
Sleeve: There is a 4 cm area of wear at the centre of the bottom edge. This has also caused some wear to the bottom flipback in that area. There is some light or mild ringwear & rubbing wear to the corner tips. VG condition
Vinyl: There are some light or very mild sleeve rubs which can be seen under a strong light. VG condition. The labels are in VG++ condition & show mild spindle wear only. The company inner sleeve is in VG+ condition. There is some light to mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.
I have fully play tested this LP. Unfortunately it is quite a crackly copy. Visually it looks VG+ to VG++. But It plays Good+ to VG overall. There is some light, mild or very mild crackle in the background. I think that this LP would definitely benefit from a professional clean. It would, I believe, play much better afterwards. It seems that most of the crackle is due to deep down dirt in the grooves.
