ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful and quite rare LP from Spanish HMV / La Voz de su Amo (ASDL 783, Spanish pressing, cream/gold label – ED1, stereo) features Rudolf Kempe’s magnificent rendition of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major Op. 55 “Eroica”, recorded with the mighty Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at Grunewaldkirche, Charlottenberg, Berlin on 3 September 1959. 

Some have suggested that Kempe’s reading is lacking in dynamism, but it is a performance whose stature grows with repeated hearing; his conception is all of a piece and it is imbued with a cumulative power and sense of architecture that is quite remarkable. The BPO play with customary power and beautifully burnished tone – a fascinatingly individual “Eroica”.

This early 1960s Spanish HMV pressings are every bit as fine as their counterparts in England or Continental Europe. Owing to the exigencies of life under Franco, the Spanish HMV catalog was considerably smaller, many titles being issued in only 500-copy runs, and making such LPs exceedingly rare today – a treasurable part of gramophone history.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the glossy, laminated flipback jacket is NM-. There is slight evidence of shelf wear, but that is all. There are no seam splits, bends, scuffs, creases, or owners' marking and the fine laminate finish is perfectly intact. The album remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a very handsome collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though surfaces are not perfectly silent, really this a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. However, if you must have a flawless or NM copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
