This superb LP from Chandos (ABRD 1999, German pressing, blue/black label, DDD stereo) features the young Nigel Kennedy in a magical recital devoted to the violin music of Edward Elgar, recorded in the warm acoustics of the Church of St. George the Martyr, Bloomsbury, London, on 6/7 January 1984. He is accompanied throughout by pianist Peter Pettinger.

This album was produced by Brian Couzens and engineered by Bill Todd.

Incidentally, the striking cover photo of Elgar was reproduced by permission of Elgar’s birthplace at Broadheath, Worcester. The photo of Nigel Kennedy was taken by Alex von Koeltlitz, while that of Peter Pettinger was taken by Peter Rauter.

The album design was executed by Peter Taylor Associates. There are insightful and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Michael Kennedy, provided in English only.

CONDITON:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is minor wear at corners and a barcode sticker to the rear panel, but that is all. Otherwise, the album appears almost as new – overall, a lovely collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
