Crash! is an album by guitarist Kenny Burrell with organist Brother Jack McDuff's Quartet recorded in 1963 and released on the Prestige label.
Highly enjoyable session recorded in 1963, with Burrell playing second fiddle to McDuff on most tracks, but still getting plenty of tasty licks in the mix. Highlights include "Grease Monkey", "Nica's Dream", "Call It Stormy Monday" and "We'll Be Together Again". This pressing dates from some point in the 70's, and it sounds quite good, with ample low end, a clean, crisp guitar and drum sound, and a robust, full-bodied tone from the B-3. My copy plays nice and clean, with barely any surface noise. Good stuff.
Kenneth Earl Burrell (born July 31, 1931) is an American jazz guitarist known for his work on numerous top jazz labels: Prestige, Blue Note, Verve, CTI, Muse, and Concord. His collaborations with Jimmy Smith were notable, and produced the 1965 Billboard Top Twenty hit Verve album Organ Grinder Swing. He has cited jazz guitarists Charlie Christian, Oscar Moore, and Django Reinhardt as influences, along with blues guitarists T-Bone Walker and Muddy Waters.
Eugene McDuffy (September 17, 1926 – January 23, 2001), known professionally as "Brother" Jack McDuff or "Captain" Jack McDuff, was an American jazz organist and organ trio bandleader. He was most prominent during the hard bop and soul jazz era of the 1960s, often performing with an organ trio. He is also credited with giving guitarist George Benson his first break.
