Description
Blue Note is loved, revered, respected and recognized as one of the most important record labels in the history of popular music. In the late 1950s, many Blue Note artists were moving from Charlie Parker style Hard Bop towards a more accessible Funky Blues style which would feed through into Soul by the end of the 1960s.
Kenny Burrell stood out as a guitarist headlining Blue Note album releases. Midnight Blue is possibly one of his finest albums; with a mellow blend of New York Jazz with Blues. He is supported by Stanley Turrentine, Major Holley Jr, Bill English and Ray Baretto.
Record Grading and Condition: G+ This copy is a US Import bought in the UK during the 1960s and played regularly at that time. The disc has been inspected to find visible scratches on Tracks 1 and 3 on Side 2 plus other faint surface scratches but plays OK with some noise.
Sleeve Grading: G Some scuffing around edges and creasing, discoloration on notes side due to usage and age. Interior sleeve is in Fair condition with “BURRELL” written on both sides.
Label & Authentication: Blue Note Records Inc, 43 West 61st St, New York 23; “VANGELDER” machine pressed into the run-out on both sides, dating production at 1961/2 onwards.
Note to intending buyers: The Goldmine/eBay grading scale, i.e. M / NM / VG+ / VG / G+ / G / F / P, has been used to describe condition. The album on sale is over 50 years old and was frequently played at the time; so assessment has been deliberately conservative in stating levels of G+/G (Good+/Good). All feedback will be gratefully received.
Supplementary Note: This album was sold during February; however issues with the auction process led to the order being cancelled by mutual consent with the buyer. It is now being offered again at the same starting price as the original auction.
