Kenny Burrell: "Kenny Burrell"
Rare, original 1957 Prestige release. 447 West 50th Street, New York address at foot of sleeve verso and at both labels. RVG (Rudy van Gelder) initials in dead-wax. Fireworks yellow and black labels. Previous owner slipped it into a later (NJ) Prestige inner sleeve. Graded VG/VG and here are the specs: the sleeve is a promo/cut-out with a punch through the middle; both sides of the sleeve are lightly soiled, and the rear has the previous owner's name penned under the catalogue number; the seams and labels are strong with a slight pinch to the upper left corner, and small (1/2") split at the upper edge near the opening, nothing else. The punch runs through the record labels: just before the "P" of "PRESTIGE" and just after the "E" of "PRESTIGE" (11 o'clock and 1 o'clock, respectively); otherwise the labels are clean and undamaged, without wear or spindle marks. The record has scuff, some hairlines, and some needle-mark to both sides, nothing looks deep and a blind feel of both sides could not discern the marked areas. The record plays with light and passing static, some soft ticks to both sides, one spot of light pops (side A) and two spots of light to moderate pops (side B). The quality of the vinyl Prestige was using during this period makes this, its marks notwithstanding, a very listenable copy of the recording - a purist will not be interested but anyone who can tolerate a few touches of clatter should consider this a candidate for purchase.
