1972 UK VINYL LP * SMOOTH GATEFOLD Kevin Ayers, to compare him to a slightly more well known artist, is a less sad and anxious counterpart to Syd Barrett. (In fact, the two were relatively close and they occasionally played together.) His work oozes a delightful, childish innocence influenced heavily by the psychedelic folk scene in the UK at the turn of the 70s, but while Barrett's solo explorations are gray and deep-sea blue, Kevin's are yellow and neon pink. Ayers was charismatic, talented, and possessed a unique vision of the English counterculture of his prime, and as such, released the kind of pop tunes that most of his contemporaries couldn't touch. The gorgeous title track with an earwormy chorus (featuring lovely harmonies from former Soft Machine bandmate Robert Wyatt) and sparkling guitar by Mike Oldfield. The opening track, "There Is Loving" revels in its orchestral pomp, "Stranger In Blue Suede Shoes" is a delightfully catchy shaggy dog tale which went on to become one of his best loved songs. "Song From The Bottom of A Well" is an unusual and dark track.

Grading scale: NM > EX > VG+ > VG > Good > Poor

Vinyl: VG+. Signs of use but nothing that really compromises the record visually or audibly. The finish is shiny with light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Labels are superb, clean and bright without marks. Spindle shows no sign of wear. And no warps.
