Description
I am offering for auction Kevin Ayres JOY OF A TOY.This is an original 1969 first pressing in stereo on the extremely rare and collectible Harvest label without the E.M.I.box.
The record and matrix numbers are; SHVL 763

Very earliest matrix numbers. This was his first and rarest album by far and hardly ever turns up in such superb condition as this. His former band members from THE SOFT MACHINE make a guest appearance on the recording,providing a distinctive backing to Kevin's unique vocal charm.This album would make an excellent companion to Syd Barrett's,The Madcap Laughs,which I am also auctioning a week earlier.Both artists were friends and worked together on several projects.Their debut solo albums share common features such as performing with previous band members and uncannily the catalogue numbers of both albums are almost consecutive being SHVL763 and SHVL765.I will offer a postage discount if one bidder secures both items.
This is a genuine first pressing.Only first pressings had no E.M.I.box and "The Gramophone Co.Ltd" text printed around the edge of the label.
Vinyl Description NEAR MINT
Visual inspection reveals overall surface is smooth and glossy with a mirror-like finish on heavyweight vinyl.Some very minor wispy paper marks which cannot be heard when record is playing.The record lies perfectly flat on the turntable and shows no visible warp when spinning.The labels are immaculate with no writing or marks.There are very few faint spindle traces around centre hole.Considering this record is thirty-nine years old it is in fantastic condition.
The audio quality is superb! Crystal clear soundfrom this first pressing on thick vinyl.No crackle detected except for occasional static tics in run off grooves.I have played this record and found the audio to be faultless.No audible distortion over the full dynamic range.Stunning clarity and depth. It plays without sticking,jumping and there are no loud pops or clicks caused by scratches.I would say the play grade is near mint.It would be virtually impossible to find a copy to better this one.This is a MEGA RARE copy!
Cover Description NEAR MINT
This is the first press wide spine gatefold cover by E.J.Day with laminated outer and plain black and white inner.No colour fading or signs of age.Outer cover has retained it's shine and gloss and is like new.Minimal corner wear,no edge wear.No writing or marks.Spine is excellent and fully readable.Inner sleeve is the original in excellent condition,no discolouration.
