Original American copy of one of the very best UK prog albums. 1972 recording by a band including the great Steve Hillage, Dave Stewart of Egg, Nick Greenwood of Cold Cuts fame and Arthur Brown’s Crazy World and Eric Peachey also from Arthur Brown’s band. The music is a magical mix of Caravan and Gong with long spacey tracks, a great keyboard sound, fantastic guitar and a spaced atmosphere throughout.

The original UK issue was on Deram in 1972 but this wasn’t issued in America until 1978 after Steve Hillage’s solo career had taken off. It’s a single sleeve compared to the gatefold one with the UK issue but this is in nice condition throughout and is a nice cheap alternative to the British version which has become very scarce over the last few years.

Condition: Sleeve

The usual American thick card single sleeve with (unusually for this album) no cut out hole.

The front sleeve is extremely clean with no major damage. No tears, no writing anywhere, a couple of very small light creases coming down from the top seam, another light crease right in the bottom left corner. There’s a small amount of light ringwear at the bottom but nowhere else.

The rear sleeve is also in fine shape, there’s a couple of light creases in each bottom corner but those aside condition is very strong, it’s extremely clean, no tears, no writing, no other creasing, no ringwear or any other type of wear or damage.

The top and bottom seams are both totally unworn.

The spine has some small light patches of wear but all of the writing is clearly readable.

Condition: Record

The disc itself is in very nice condition indeed. The vinyl is fairly thin and somehow doesn’t feel like an American pressing, it’s very very clean and doesn’t have the pressing marks which a lot of American albums have. The vinyl has a lovely dark sheen and obviously hasn’t been played much. Viewed in normal light there are no surface marks at all, even when examined closely under a very harsh lamp no surface marks are revealed.

Both labels are very clean and free from any sort of wear or damage.

When played the record sits very flatly on the turntable with no hint of warping or unevenness. The sound is clean and clear with a nice wide dynamic range covering the deep rumbling bass and the higher vocal and guitar frequencies as well as the lovely spacey keyboards. The disc plays great with no unwanted surface noise anywhere, no crackles, clicks or pops, no groovewear or distortion, no jumping or sticking just good clean sound reproducing the marvellous music superbly.

Ok, so this probably isn’t as desirable as a UK Deram pressing or maybe even a German Brain one but any original copy is difficult to find these days and a real nice one is a nice addition to any UK prog collection.
