Killed By Death is a classic and highly influential series of bootleg punk compilations. The focus is on rare and hard to find punk singles. This is about as lo-fi and punk as punk gets. It's certainly not mainstream as far as punk goes but it is highly influential in the underground. I would not be surprised these days if a mainstream indie rocker or rock band cited one of these LP's. Lots of people have heard these LP's or some of the songs on them. The stuff on the Killed By Death (KBD) compilations is a lot different than UK 1977 punk or 1982 UK Hardcore or The Ramones or Southern California hardcore. It's kind of weird and strange but very pissed off and addictive because the songs are so good. One thing I used to like about these comps was that you knew nothing about the bands and could only judge the music from what you heard. It wasn't like the Sex Pistols or the RAMONES where you have tons of pictures and stories. That adds to the appeal because it feels very underground. I used to listen to these lp's and figured the members were probably mostly dead or no longer into punk and there was something intriguing about not knowing what happened to these folks who made this records and the fact that it was usually just a self-released single or two. Punk doesn't really have greatest hits (Rolling Stone and SPIN lists = zero / nothing) but all the songs on this album and many other Killed By Death lp's would be/are considered classics by many punk fans, collectors and DJ's. It's not uncommon to see original copies of records from the KBD compilations selling for 100's or sometimes thousands of dollars used/secondhand on eBay . I've always wondered who these people were spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on one punk single on eBay. Check out the Bloodstains Across series if you like the KBD comps. Bloodstains focuses on certain cities or countries or states. Killed By Death is top notch punk rock if you like the original stuff. Not one bad song on the first volumes in the series and lots of cool band names and even better song titles.
