NOTE: All Albums listed on my eBay site were purchased by me and in my collection since new.
Album Details
- Album: In the Court of the Crimson King (An Observation by King Crimson) (1969)
- Label/Catalog Number: Atlantic Records – SD 19155
- Pressing Info: The catalog number SD 19155 and the bottom label rim text ("MFG. BY ATLANTIC RECORDING CORP., 75 ROCKEFELLER PLAZA, N.Y., N.Y. A WARNER COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY") identify this as a US late 1970s reissue (circa 1975–1977).
- Pressing Plant: The -PR suffix on the center label matrix code (ST-A-691699-PR) indicates this record was pressed at Presswell in Ancora, NJ.
Condition & Valuation
- Condition Note: The vinyl surface is exceptionally clean with a deep gloss, and the gatefold cover exhibits very crisp edges and minimal shelf wear. I would consider this EXCELLENT/Near Mint Condition.
NOTE: Yesterday’s Albums vs Today’s Vinyl Pressings
Original vinyl albums pressed prior to the early 80’s are pure analogue and as such the modern “remastered vinyl” albums are not even close in producing pure analogue output. These new vinyl LPs have had the original analogue master tape output converted to digital and then “remastered” which simply means digitalized and then sent to a new digital pressing machine which then sends the digital output to a digital to analogue converter to finally press the result onto a vinyl LP. The result is actually a digitalized version of the original analogue source and no longer a true analogue representation of the original recordings.
The point is that an original analogue pressed vinyl LP will certainly sound much closer to the original recording than a current vinyl offering.
If you buy an original album, you’re buying a better sounding album!
