King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon

I am pleased to offer for sale this exceptional copy of King Crimson's second studio LP, In the Wake of Poseidon. 

Following the success of their first studio LP, King Crimson entered the studio . Despite significant changes to the line-up of the band, the album was well received both commercially and critically, topping out at number 4 in the UK album charts. Although the album retained many musical elements introduced in 'In the Court..' Fripp's production creates rawer soundscape in 'In the Wake..'.

This particular copy is a superb example of a true UK first pressing and would make a fantastic condition to any record collection.

Matrix number: A 1 / B 1

Mother & stamper codes: 1 3 9 / 1 2 1 1

The matrix numbers inform us that the vinyl is a true UK first pressing which features an extended version of T4S1, 'In the Wake of Poseidon (including Libra's theme)' than all subsequent releases (8,26 vs 7,56). Both sides were produced using the first mother plates and early stampers. Consequently, the audio reproduction is simply fantastic. Take a listen yourself below. 

The labels are the first variant pink Island labels with white "i" logo and which mistakenly do not include T1S2 'Peace - A Theme' on the track listing.

The non-laminated gatefold sleeve is the first variant manufactured by E. J. Day & co which has a textured finish. Later variants did not. 

Completing the album is the original 'plastic bags can be dangerous' polythene lined, die-cut inner sleeve.

Labels: EXCELLENT +

The labels are bright and clean. Only minor spindle wear is visible.

Visual: EXCELLENT +

The record retains immaculate deep-gloss playing surfaces that are blemish free in bright daylight. Under the glare of a halogen desk lamp wispy paper hairline marks can be seen alongside an iridescent rainbow sheen. Truly fantastic.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT

As can be heard in the audio clips, the vinyl sounds stunning. There is great channel separation, superb clarity and exceptional dynamism. Only minor static can be heard during the lead ins and in quieter passages of the music. It is never distracting. Truly a fantastic listening experience. 

Sleeve: EXCELLENT -

The original sleeve looks superb! All four sides are bright and clean without any hint of discolouration. The cover art is vibrant. The spine and all 6 edges show only minimal storage wear. The corners are strong but do show subtle softening. A great example. 

Inner Sleeves: EXCELLENT 

The original inner sleeve is in great condition.

Additional Details:

Before the audio test was performed the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner (using L'art du Son cleaning solution) and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.

After cleaning, the vinyl is housed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.

The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.

The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.
