King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King Stereo ILPS-9111 with First Press Matrix ILPS 9111 A2 & B4 You are looking at the 1969 King Crimson album In the Court of the Crimson King. The gatefold album cover opens out to reveal the full track listing and lyrics and the album is illustrated by artist Barry Godber, as shown in the photographs. The cover has two openings but is a single album. The cover illustrations are the stuff of childhood nightmares! The album cover is worn around the edges and there is ring wear from storage over the years. The spine shows major signs of wear back to brown cardboard for the most part. There are no stickers, marks, rips or tears on the outer sides of the cover but there is a very small biro signature in the white of the right eye as you look at the front of the album. This is visible in the photo's. The original inner plastic lined sleeve is intacted but shows signs of yellowing with age. On to the the record itself, both pink i labels are in great condition with suprisingly little sign of spindle wear considering how many times this album has been played. The Island Records 1st Press Matrix numbers end A2 and B4 and are visible on close inspection. Side 1 There are small surface scratches on the first side but no signs of major/serious damage and no warping. When played there is very light back ground noise and some very minor popping/clicking which is most noticable briefly in part of track 2. There are no jumps or sticking when playing the record. Side 2 This side hasn't faired so well, there are lots of small surface scratches but also 3-4 more serious looking scratches and these translate to pops or clicks when it's played. Track 1 is affected the most but the noise subsides through the track, there are a couple of loudish clicks in track 2 as it gets going and then we go back to aceptable back ground noise which you'd associate with a record of this age. Again the record doesn't jump or stick when played. I guess I just loved playing this brilliant album a bit too much over the years but it still sounds fantastic compared to the sterile CD version. I'm selling my small record collection so other albums will be listed in the coming days. The record will be securely packaged and sent by 2nd class signed for delivery.
