King Crimson-In the court of the Crimson King
Very rare and THE very FIRST press of the ITCOTCK.
Not only is it a first UK pressing but THE EARLIEST possible first press displaying the rare matrices-A2/B3!!!
Sleeve is the earliest rare issue and the harder to find,printed by E J Day with the wobbly box inscription on inner left face.Has the famous white “I” logo in this opening gatefold sleeve. Slight wear to edges.Spine beginning to show signs of lifting. Slight blemish on outer cover but colours are vibrant and strong-see pics. Inner faces are the deeper blue finish which shows a genuine early first issue. Excellent minus grading!!
Labels easily stained/scuffed but these are a beautiful pastel pink and are in excellent condition.The coloration is of the paler pink format whereas later releases had labels significantly darker.Hardly any hairlines which are very faint on detection.
Vinyl is a highly polished, thick heavyweight press.A few light surface/handling marks are visible but the beauty of the jet black against the pink label is an awesome sight for any record enthusiast.Excellent visual grading awarded.
Audio is always carefully listened to by myself and I perceive this recording to be very close to an excellent, may be not quite reaching this status as the grading varies throughout the record.There is some surface sound,crackles and several pops on the very quiet parts of the music.Grading side 1-ex minus with very little surface noise.Side 2- VG in the quiet passages otherwise ex minus .The tones are sharp and clear with little distortion.I personally feel that this is a fine example of the earliest press of this huge album.Surface noise is present but Island had an inherent problem with sound on these presses and surface noise and pops are common to all these early Island releases.
Most importantly, is the awesome stereo mix on this monumental recording and the fact that this is THE earliest 1st UK press of the greatest rock album ever produced.This HUGE rock album was a massive seller and peaked in the UK charts at no. 5-Nov. 1969.
What more can I say except no collection is complete without this record.
