As a boy, I couldn’t wait to get’out of Sunday School so I could go upstairs and sing with the other boys and girls before the adults came to sing in the choir for the worship service. As I grew older, quartet singing became a part of my life and I had the privilege of singing with three local groups, traveling across the land, telling the old, old story in song. This type of singing gave me the op- portunity to meet many new friends and see hearts blessed and souls come to know the Lord in our services. But the time came when I realized God had something more in store for my life. In 1979, God began dealing with my heart, telling me there was more He wanted me to do. For a year I battled within myself until in September of 1980, I surrendered to His call to preach the Gospel. Since that time I have been truly blessed by the Lord and I give Him all the praise. Singing is still a vital part of my ministry. . In recent months, I have felt as if God would have me to work in a solo capacity, using a trio from time to time. Thus, after many prayer- ful talks with the Lord, I am pleased to present my first solo album, appropriately entitled “HEEDING THE CALL.” It is my hope and heart’s desire that the songs I have chosen will be a blessing to those who listen. I have included two original songs, ‘Where You Lead (I’ll Follow You)’ and ‘Go Ye Out And Preach,’ which are my personal testimonies. Two songs on the album, ‘He Was There All The Time’ and ‘Open My Eyes,’ are sung by my wife Diane, who has faithfully stood by my side. I would like to say thanks to my friend Squire Parsons for his advice and guidance, and to Lyons Smith and all the staff of Lasting Sounds Studio for their tireless efforts in making this record possible.
