Kinks Village Green LP 1st press EX+ Orig Reprise label

 This auction is for the 1968 LP "The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society" (RS 6327). The album still retains its original shrinkwrap.  This is NOT a reissue or cutout.  This is an excellent copy of the very first US pressing, as noted by the "older" Reprise label.  Don't be fooled by other auctions that mention "first pressing" if the Reprise label is all orange with an "R" in a reddish square.  This logo wasn't developed by Reprise until 1972, so these are all considered later pressings (many as late as 1975!).  This copy however, features the original orange label with a an upper reddish section with the "R" in a small orange circle, denoting the original 1968 pressing.

This LP is in fantastic shape, minus some minor binwear around the bottom left corner.  The shrinkwrap has helped preserve the integrity of the colors and surface of the LP jacket.  It is still highly glossy, and the colors are still bright and vibrant.  You would be hard pressed to find this original 1st pressing in such amazing condition.

The Cover:

As previously noted, aside from some binwear found on one lower corner, this LP appears virtually brand new.  The shrinkwrap has done wonders to protect and preserve the jacket from outside elements such as light-fading or any sorts of rips or tears.  This is a gatefold jacket, but the gatefold has never been opened due to its shrinkwrap, so you can be assured of no creasing on the jacket spine.  The binwear in the corner is only from this album being stored too tightly between other albums for all of these years, and is not a result of mishandling or reckless use.  This is as close to a "new" copy that you are likely to find, barring a sealed copy (which would be extremely hard to come across).

The Vinyl:

The true prize of this item is the pristine copy of the vinyl found within.  The original Reprise sleeve holds the most beautiful copy you are ever likely to find of this LP.  This is from the collection of someone who didn't have time to listen to the LPs that they had purchased (for the simple fact that they bought records so frequently, time just wouldn't allow it).  On visual inspection, I would say this particular record couldn't possibly have been played more than once or twice.  The only visual defects are the very small "hairlines" (superficial scratches caused by any record shuffling around in its sleeve), which do not affect playback in any way.  I've opened many sealed records that have more hairlines than this amazing specimen!  Obviously, from the infrequency of actual time on a turntable, there is absolutely no groovewear or scratches that would cause distortion.  The labels themselves appear as brand new as the day this record was purchased.  There isn't any sort of spindlewear, so this LP will fit snugly on your turntable.  I can't stress enough how new this LP looks!

Overall you simply can't go wrong with this auction.  It would most likely be an upgrade if you already own a decent or better copy.  If you do happen to own it, I would recommend checking the labels to see if you have an original 1968 pressing (which this copy most certainly is).  Remember, if the label is all orange, your copy is from 1972 at the earliest.  It is only the copies with the upper portion displaying a reddish color that are original 1st pressings.

If you don't own this album on vinyl yet, then this auction would be a fantastic win for you as well!  You would be getting a NM+ copy of the vinyl in its original sleeve, with a beautiful cover encased in its original shrinkwrap with only one minor defect in the lower corner.

Either way this is a great purchase for any Kinks enthusiast or any serious record collector in general.   It would be VERY hard to upgrade this copy of this 40 year old gem!
