Original 1st US Casablanca Records pressing of KISS’ 7th studio album “Dynasty” released on May 23, 1979. Monstrously rare KISS Dynasty “Straight Jacket” Cover! At the end of the photo session for the “Dynasty” album cover, there was an idea to have the band members wear straight jackets. The band members’ faces on these photos turned out to be good, but the concept with the straight jackets wasn’t green lit. These photos were used in the airbrushed form not only on the cover itself, but also on the poster that comes with the album. Less than 100 covers were made when the printer paid attention that Paul Stanley’s and Gene Simmon’s straight jackets weren’t completely airbrushed. The error was then quickly corrected and this initial bunch of less than 100 covers became extremely collectible and highly sought after by KISS collectors. This copy was pressed at the Columbia Records, Santa Maria, CA plant and contains the “25” number on the labels. The full complete memorabilia set includes:

-22” x 33” full color poster of the band

- 4-page KISS ARMY merchandise insert with a mail order form

- Custom multi-color “KISS” illuminated inner sleeve with the KISS ARMY headquarters New York address

1st pressing vinyl mastered by Sterling Sound Studios, New York as identified by the machine stamped “Sterling” in the runout groove on both sides. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 – NBLP-7152-AS-RE1-CS3  STERLING C5 1 5; Side 2 – NBLP-7152-BS-CS3 STERLING C6 1 5

This copy comes with the original “Dynasty” 1979 concert tour “KISS” program. “Printed in the  U.S.A.” 18-page booklet measures 14” x 10” and contains the creative description of the band members’ characters, color photos, discography, production crew list and “Aucoin Management Inc., 645 Madison Avenue, New York, New York 10022” credits.

I grade the cover as Very Good Plus. It's very clean and doesn't have any splits. However, as seen on the photos the cover does have scuffs, age discoloration spots, tape stains (but no residue), some ball pen writing and creases. Regardless of these issues, please remember that this cover is one of only 100 "Straight Jacket" covers that have ever been produced. The spine has a fully readable text. The original inner sleeve, poster and KISS Army insert are in Near Mint Minus condition. The vinyl is graded as Very Good Plus. It retains the original glossy factory lacquer having a few very light non-feelable surface marks as well as scuffs from the original paper inner sleeve. The labels are super clean and are in Near Mint condition without having any wear, scuffs or spindle marks. The "KISS" convert tour program is in great vintage condition with all of the pages intact only having some light signs of use and shelf wear. The vinyl sounds great only having some light occasional static and quick skip in the beginning of the first track on Side 1. Perhaps it will disappear if you change the balance of your tonearm. Most likely, the static and the skip also could get reduced or go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
