ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome LP – note the color photo, different from all other issues of this recording – from Spanish RCA (3L16197, Spanish pressing, plum/silver label, mono) features Leonid Kogan's thrilling performance of Khachaturian's Violin Concerto, recorded in the fabled acousts of Symphony Hall, Boston on 12-13 January 1958 with no less than Pierre Monteux conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra, perhaps the only account to equal, if not surpass, that by Kogan's compatriot, David Oistrakh.

Indeed, Kogan's version was awarded a Rosette by the ubiquitous Penguin Guide. Filling out the disc is Kogan's equally dazzling account of Saint-Saëns' Havanaise Op. 53, also with Monteux and the BSO, set down during these same sessions.

There are insightful liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Rudolph Elie, Music Critic of the Boston Herald, provided in English only. The amazing cover photo of Kogan and Monteux was taken by John G. Ross.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is wear and discoloration along the edges, more so at corners and to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remain solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. However, those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
