Bartok: Concerto For Orchestra
(HMV ASD 312 UK LP 1959)
This is a UK original Stereo LP pressing. It has a front laminated flipback sleeve which has a large sized "Stereo" on the front. It has its original polythene-lined company "Emitex" inner sleeve.
The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has white & gold HMV labels. These are grooved also. It has 1st press 2YEA 151-9 and 2YEA 152-6 matrix stampers.
Sleeve: There is some mild to more moderate fading to the white of the rear sleeve. There is a very tiny tear to the laminate at the front sleeve opening. This hardly notices. Otherwise, minimal wear. VG+ condition
Vinyl: Firstly, there is something that causes a mild to more moderate click near the start of Side 1. Please see below. Otherwise, there are some light or very mild sleeve rubs which can be seen under a strong light. There is one very small 1 cm hairline mark. VG++ condition. The labels are in Excellent+ condition & show light spindle wear only. The company inner sleeve is in VG++ condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.
I have fully play tested this LP. There is a mild to more moderate click near the start of Side 1. I cannot see anything, when viewed under a strong light, to cause this. Otherwise, plays VG to VG+ overall & Near Excellent in some places. There is some light, mild or very mild crackle in the background to a varying degree. This eases out over the course of the side. There are a couple of light clicks near the end of Side 1 too. Side 2 plays better, it plays VG+ to Near Excellent overall & Excellent in some places. There is some light, very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places.
This record would definitely benefit from a professional clean. Any crackle is, I believe, just due to deep down dirt in the grooves. It would, I believe, play EX to EX+ after a professional clean. It may even remove whatever it is that causes the noticeable click near the start of Side 1.
