BRAND NEW // SEALED // SHIPS FROM NEW ZEALAND
** !! Record Store Day 2014 Exclusive !! **
No other band epitomised MOD style in New Zealand in the mid-sixties more than the La De Da's.
Their attitude, repertoire, sound, and image borrowed heavily from their UK idols The Small Faces, The Artwoods and The Rolling Stones. Soul sounds on labels like Atlantic coming out of the US at the time also factored strongly. Singer Phil Key had the deep soulful voice and guitarist Kevin Borich brought the wild fuzz riffs. From 1966 to 1967 they ruled supreme in Auckland at svengali Eldred Stebbing’s Galaxie nightclub.
Recording at Eldred's tiny Saratoga Avenue home studio in Herne Bay, Auckland, the La De Da’s made recordings that rocked the antipodes. Released through Philips the La De Da’s gritty sound was taken nationwide and on to Australia when they first visited in mid 1967. The tracks on this collection, all mastered from the original masters by Steve McGough at Stebbings are the essential La De Da’s from their early years. This release features Little Girl - the first single recorded by The La De Da’s in 1965.
