WHEN BENNIE MOTEN AND HIS KANSAS CITY ORCHESTRA wearily sat down to record these and six other sides for Victor in December, 1932, little did they know they were winding the clock of the music business for the next nearly twenty years! For these '32 Moten sides fully and explicitly defined "swing" for all time. The guys only were trying to make some money to get back to Kansas City after a disastrous tour; they ended up making history.
These two exciting sides, the home-grown Count Basie - Eddie Durham "killer diller" "LAFAYETTE," and Hoagy Carmichael's latest song, "NEW ORLEANS," will simply send you, if you have the least capacity to be sent!
This band featured future leader COUNT BASIE (piano), WALTER PAGE (bass), HOT LIPS PAGE (trumpet) EDDIE BAREFIELD (clarinet) EDDIE DURHAM (guitar), BEN WEBSTER and JACK WASHINGTON (saxophones), LEROY BERRY (guitar), WILLIE McWASHINGTON (drums) and on "New Orleans," JIMMY RUSHING (vocals).
This original 1940 Bluebird 10955, re-issuing two sides from 1932, is in beautiful E condition. Both sides master pressed, same coupling and sonically indistinguishable from the original Victor 24216.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care.
