Description
This is a VERY RARE 7" SINGLE UK WHITE LABEL TEST PRESSING of I Can Hear Music by LARRY LUREX (aka, FREDDIE MERCURY, BRIAN MAY and ROGER TAYLOR) and pre-dates Queen releases.
It is a white label (both sides shown on photos) and is effectively the same as that shown on the queen.museum.com website (see section on Larry Lurex Singles) except that theirs has hand-written title/artist on it whereas this is unadulterated. It has LL A-1 identifying mark on the run off-groove on one side and the other bears three marks in different locations of 2, LPFB and a 7 above a 0. One side features 'I Can Hear Music' but the B-side contains a continuous recorded tone. It does not last 3.26mins as stated on the queenmuseum.com website but is around 3.15mins - I don't know if they include non recorded time in pre-play and run-off but I have checked the actual length of the song as best I can.
In 1972 (pre-Queen release), Queen were waiting to record their debut album at Trident Studios when producer Robin Cable enlisted Freddie Mercury. Brian May and Roger Taylor to record a couple of cover versions, this Beach Boys hit being one of them. It was eventually released as a single in 1973 but this test-pressing makes this one of the earliest of their recordings on vinyl.
It was given to me by my friend from school days, Peter Hince, who worked and roadied for Queen (and whom is aware that I am selling it) and having sat on the shelf for many years, I have decided to sell it.
It has probably been played a dozen times in its life and has light surface scratches but plays well.
