LAST EXIT IN SESSION "9th Avenue (Put On Your Wings And Fly)" – early Sting / The Police interest during his Last Exit days in Newcastle, before fame and fortune!
Official Recording! 1975 track on Limited Edition Color Vinyl –– released late 2025

This is a rare opportunity to own something spectacular and ULTRA RARE related to Sting before he rose to international fame.
50 years ago in Newcastle England, Sting and the band he was in before The Police (called Last Exit) were paid as a work for hire (a recording session) to record a cover version of a Barbados band’s reggae-esque song called “Put on your Wings and Fly.”
The Last Exit band on this session was comprised of:
• Sting on vocals and bass
• Ronnie Pearson on drums and vocals
• Terry Ellis on guitar
• Gerry Richardson on keyboards
• plus a saxophone player named Nigel Stanger who would play live with Last Exit sometimes, as well as playing in the Newcastle Big Band together with Sting.
"Put On Your Wings And Fly" was merely the subject of lore across the next FIVE DECADES, never emerging or circulating. Until now!
The official copyright holder, David Wood of Impulse Studios, who paid for the 1975 recording session and produced it, decided to press this incredible rarity onto about 300 vinyl copies, a full FIFTY YEARS after it was recorded!!!
Each copy is individually numbered on the record jacket, and is on beautiful color vinyl. An attractive presentation in a classy matte finish jacket that includes inset photography of the original master reel, and the full story about how this recording came to exist. These are new in resealable polybags (to enable the individual numbering), which is how the actual record on offer can be shown.
These records were made available to a small group of pre-order fans at the end of 2025, in what turned out to be 14 different color variants. THIS EXACT COPY, numbered 160, is even more unique. It is "transitional" in nature, where the factory appears to have been migrating from one color of vinyl to another. So, this one is a dual-variety copy, of which there are only a tiny number.
This makes it the perfect surprise gift for someone in your life who loves Sting and The Police… and who may think they 'have it all,' because they're wrong! It would also make for a perfect complement to the Last Exit 45rpm 7" record called 'Whispering Voices" / "Evensong" because attention to every fine detail was made, right down to the label and logo design.]
If you'd like more information about the four mixes of the tune on the record, they can be found on Discogs in granular detail.
This 12 inch record has been cut at 45 RPM for best sound quality (12 inch record for wide grooves and better bass response, and higher RPM for more analog data read by the needle to reproduce the sound).
