Laura Nyro  (October 18, 1947 – April 8, 1997) was an American songwriter, singer, and pianist. She achieved critical acclaim with her own recordings, particularly the albums Eli and the Thirteenth Confession(1968) and New York Tendaberry (1969), and had commercial success with artists such as Barbra Streisand and The 5th Dimension recording her songs. Her style was a hybrid of Brill Building-style New York pop, jazz, gospel, rhythm and blues,show tunes, rock and soul.

Between 1968 and 1970, a number of artists had hits with her songs: The 5th Dimension with "Blowing Away", "Wedding Bell Blues", "Stoned Soul Picnic", "Sweet Blindness", "Save The Country" and "Black Patch"; Blood, Sweat & Tears and Peter, Paul & Mary with "And When I Die"; Three Dog Night and Maynard Ferguson with "Eli's Coming"; and Streisand with "Stoney End", "Time and Love", and "Hands off the Man "

New York Tendaberry is an album by New York-born singer, songwriter and pianist Laura Nyro. It was released in the autumn of 1969 on Columbia Records, some eighteen months after its predecessor, Eli and the Thirteenth Confession. The album is generally considered by rock critics and Laura Nyro aficionados to be her greatest musical achievement. It was helmed by her, with the assistance of producer and engineer Roy Halee.

New York Tendaberry is also considered to be the second in a trilogy of classic original Nyro records, with Eli and Christmas and the Beads of Sweat on either side. They are all considered musically and thematically similar, although New York Tendaberry is by far the most intense and stark.

In 1969, Nyro was one of the most popular pop songwriters, and various groups including The 5th Dimension, Three Dog Night and Blood Sweat and Tears had enjoyed hits with her compositions. Thanks to the strong word of mouth trailing her work, New York Tendaberry became her most commercially successful record, peaking at #32 on the Billboard 200, formerly known as the Pop Albums chart.

This is the hugely influential classic album that was so inspirational to many artists like Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith etc. Not easy to pidgeonhole this ticks many boxes like folk, psych etc. This is very scarce as a UK original. The vinyl is unbelievable, looks like it just rolled of the presses!!

but light  rubbing on the edges and a light wave on the back.  Still it will be hard to find an equal to this copy. Printed and made by E.J. Day Group. Unusually the vinyl enters into the sleeve from the centre middle!! NO writing , NO smudges etc.

Vinyl:  EX++ to NM. An amazing outstanding copy without any marks and NO hairlines whatsoever, an ultimate upgrade for sure.I have played this all the way through and it really took me back. Great sound, fantastic songcraft!! There is still vinyl debris attached to the the centrehole as it would have come of the press. This would have normally worn off on subsequent spins. The labels are pristine with just the slightest of spindle marking indicating possibly 2 spins on side 1 and just one on side 2. Of course there are NO jumps or skips.
