LAURIE JOHNSON THEME FROM THEAVENGERS RARE picture sleeve PYE 7N 17015
On offer is a rare LAURIE JOHNSON and His Orchestra 45 rpm entitled THEME FROM THE T.V. SERIES ‘THE AVENGERS’ c/w MINOR BOSSA NOVA released on PYE 7N 17015 in a PICTURE SLEEVE in the UK in 1966.
This auction is for an EXCELLENT + / near mint disc in an EXCELLENT picture sleeve. It is hard to find these Picture Sleeve 45s these days and it is especially difficult to find one in the great condition that this example is in.
I have owned this 45 for over 40 years and have kept it nice and safe in a plastic sleeve with the disc in a plain white inner so that the original picture sleeve was given maximum protection: and I hardly ever played the record at all.
This rare PICTURE SLEEVE 45 features an iconic photo of John Steed [Patrick Macnee] and Emma Peel [Diana Rigg] standing on a polar bear skin with Steed playfully placing his walking stick handle down Emma's top… Very risqué for 1965 to say the very least!
This single failed to chart- despite the TV show being very popular - and was deleted within a year. The picture cover edition only ran to a few thousand copies. They are hard to find especially in the LOVELY condition that this one is in.
Minor Bossa Nova - the flip-side track - was used by off-shore radio stations [including Radio London] for backing music in trailers and has a very mod mid-60s feel to it in its own right. You can hear this tune by searching for it on youtube.
- The rare picture sleeve is in EXCELLENTcondition: there is some slight ring wear evident on the back cover [see scans].
- The vinyl is in SUPERB EX+/NEAR MINT mint condition.
- The labels are EXCELLENT and are very clean and clear [see scans].
- I have test-played this 45 for this auction and it sounds and plays GREAT on my BOSE hi-fi system. A listening pleasure!
