Description

Lava: Tears Are Goin' Home.  Brain 1031, original 1973 pressing

LAVA was part of the Berlin underground music scene but produced one album only. Founded in 1971 they developed typically for this time. Brought together spontaneously more or less by the interest of some musicans to play improvised free-minded music in connection with the use of drugs and then disbanded 1974 after Thomas Karrenbach had died.

The title track Tears Are Goin' Home is a space rock tune principally, nearly in the vein of Hawkwind but lacking of synth contributions. A promising weird guitar appears at the beginning and the song later developes to a straightforward rocking thing. The next one Crimes Of Love marks the turn to catchy melodies. This is holding up a repetitive heavy rock blues perfectly fitting to a 70s party. And then you will stumble upon some american westcoast and folk infected songs with acoustic guitar furthermore.

(I'm Just A) Mad Dog is the next one which attracts my attention - mellow with nice piano appearance this must be the result of a jam basically. Holy Fool appeals to me because played much deeper in psychedelic supported by a monotonous bass - a nice song dominated by three acoustic guitars. Piece of peace continues in this mood - a meandering and floating jam - smooth - for me the album's highlight.

'Tears Are Goin' Home' is a quite good semi-psych album. Keyboarder Thomas Karrenbach arranges perfect vocals in english which is charming and unique. On the other hand this is bearing prog ingredients only half way. You will find some catchy songs though - listenable without a doubt.

GRADING STANDARDS (RECORDS)
Mint: Factory sealed, no corner or edge dings, shrinkwrap 100% intact.
NM: The record shows no signs of having ever been played. I almost never use this grade.
EX: Record surfaces are bright and clean but may have a few light paper scuffs or superficial surface marks that do not affect play.
VG+: A well cared-for used record. Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have scuffs or light scratches. May have some very light surface noise or isolated crackles and pops.
VG: Record shows visible signs of wear. Plays with some surface noise especially in soft passages. Groove wear may be noticeable, as will some scratches that may cause clicks or pops.
VG-: Lots of scratches and/or background noise.

GRADING STANDARDS (JACKETS)
NM: Near new condition. Virtually no wear to faces, edges or corners.
EX: Some very minor wear to faces, edges and/or corners of covers.
VG+: May have more pronounced ring wear, moderate wear to edges and corners, light creases or stress lines, and other minor defects as noted in the description.
VG: Will have heavier ring wear, and/or worn edges and corners, and/or light soiling or discoloration. Other defects may be present if specified in the description.
VG-: Heavier soiling, damaged edges/corners, other serious defects as noted.

An added + means condition approaches a higher grade, - means additional defects slightly lower grade, (+) or (-) in parentheses indicates an in-between grade.

All records are visually graded unless sealed, and play-tested if they look questionable.  As a matter of policy, I don't sell records that skip or repeat, although I am not perfect and may miss a flaw once in a very great while.  If you have a problem with a record, please let me know so we can find a solution.

Jackets do not have seam splits, writing, stamps, stickers or other signs of abuse unless noted in the description. Record labels do not have writing, stamps, stickers and are not otherwise defaced unless noted in the description.
