Description

Akarma, Italy, 1999 reissue of 1967 lp, gatefold cover with attached booklet, insert. Heavy vinyl lp in heavy cardboard jacket.


M-/ M-
All contents nearly new. Cover has a light 3" surface scratch at bottom front and 2 smaller 2" ones on back, small dents. Lp near new, little if any wear.

   Warhol/ VELVET UNDERGROUND inspired art/ music movement in Italy circa 1967 that featured artist/ musician Mario Schifano recruiting his friends, or "stars," to  become LE STELLE DE MARIO SCHIFANO, a Warhol-style Exploding Plastic Inevitable type happening of performance, art, and recording. The packaging corresponds to the grandiose ambition of the work, with an ultra-psychedelic visual art & photos centered booklet. The record features five psych tunes on side 1, ranging from melodically humorous to more serious in feel. Side 2 is a side long jam freakout, with lots of experimentation and improvised stuff in the communal jam vein of early AMON DUUL or CAN.

   Impossibly rare as an original, this is the definitive repackaging of this colossal pre-prog era, Italian psych culture relic!
