You are bidding for a CLASSIC UK 50'S COUNTRY BLUES / SKIFFLE 78 RPM single by LEADBELLY with SONNY TERRY on harmonica called JOHN HENRY backed with ON A MONDAY issued on the MELODISC record label in the UK in 1951, cat number 1187. The record is in excellent condition with excellent labels .The record has little wear with no slight surface scuffs or surface scratches and plays with no jumps and clicks and a minimum of surface noise. CLASSIC US COUNTRY BLUES with a WORK SONG and a PRISON song from LEADBELLY with two originals. A pionneer who toured the UK and ahd a huge influence on the SKIFFLE and BLUES artists who came along a coupl;e of years later. LONNIE DONEGAN who had a huge world wide hit with ROCK ISLAND LINE written and recorded by LEADBELLY and started the SKIFFLE craze in the UK which introduced FOLK and BLUES to UK teenagers, DONEGAN was a huge influence kickstarting the UK ROCK, BLUES and FOLK industry,. and responsible for thousands of British teenagers buying a guitar learning a few chords and forming groups. The BEATLES STONES, DIRE STRAITS, QUEEN, VAN MORRISON, BILLY FURY, CLIFF RICHARD, all started by taking their first fumbling steps in SKIFFLE groups, before turning to rock and roll, or the blues, or folk. SKIFFLE only lasted about a year but was a remaining influence, LEADBELLY was the main influence and it was his songs that the SKIFFLERS and especially DONEGAN recorded and turned into hits. A little piece of recording history... RARE in decent condition, from my own collection.
