I have very sadly decided to sell the remainder of my own record collection over the next few weeks. It is varied in its content from 60/70's Folk/Rock, incl rare Zeppelin and Floyd 1st presses, some Beatles and Dylan,including Japanese presses, various now deleted Audiophile pressings and female vocal. Some records I have owned since new, others I have carefully selected and picked up along the way. I have always tried to collect the best and earliest copies.

I will keep descriptions as simple as possible rather than do elaborate advertisements.

Whilst I have owned the records they have only ever been played on either a Michell Orbe or SME Model 20 turntable, both fitted with SME V tonearms and quality cartridges such as the Lyra Delos. My last phono stage was the Reference Whest PS 30RDT SE coupled to Vitus amplification and Sonus Faber Cremona M speakers. Not only has this been a revealing system, giving me an accurate assessment of all records played on it, but it has, I hope, always looked after the vinyl.

I clean all my records on an Okki Nokki RCM before putting them in new Nagaoka anti-static record sleeves and plastic outer sleeves. They have always been very carefully stored in a smoke free enviroment.

I will grade using the Record Collector system, erring on the side of caution as I have sold the SME. I am also selling the phono stage and cartrige. I am happy to discuss details with any buyers.

This record has been owned since new by my Uncle who passed it on to me a few years ago. I have since played it through on only 4 occasions, the last in order to write this description.  

Outer Sleeve  -  EX/EX+.  This is in superb condition. It lies perfectly flat, the spine is totally intact and straight with the lettering clearly legible with only at maximum, 3mm of laminate lift along its length. There is no shelf wear at all to the top edge and the bottom edge has a 1 to 2 mm tiny break in the laminate, that's all!  The corners show barely any wear at all and the record opening has no "fluffing" to it. There are the usual 4 or 5 light finger creases near the opening on the front cover which require the sleeve tilting to the light to be seen. From plain front on, they are not noticeable. The back has only a couple of light creases in the top left corner which again are only properly seen when the sleeve is tilted to the light. From front on, the rear looks excellent.

I have personally seen a number of these albums covers and this is by far the best.

Labels - As near Mint condition. Evidence of spindle contact is around the centre hole only.

Vinyl visualy - In normal light as near Mint as possible with jet black mirror surfaces that have that just pressed look. No scratch marks or blemishes visible. Only under strong light are feint lines visible, but non of them can be heard during playback.

I have seen quite a few of these records advertised recently that do not have much information, if any, in relation to vinyl play of the record so I played this through from start to finish on my SME listening whilst recording the following results:

Vinyl Play - Overall EX/EX+

Side 1 is stunning from start to finish. Even at the beginning when the needle first touches the record there is barely any vinyl surface noise at all - it is so quiet. This continues, the start of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave you"  is so very quiet, sounding incredible with barely a hint that this is a vinyl recording. There is barely any even at the end of this track either. The rest of this side is equally as good, with barely any vinyl surface noise and certainly nothing that is intrusive to the sound. There is not a single 'click' or 'pop' during the whole side!!! The sound has lost non of its punch and vibrancy. Superb!!!

Side 2 is as stunning. From the very beginning it is very hard to hear any vinyl surface noise at all, and I mean at all, even when played loud, whether during quiet passages or between tracks. Perhaps the only time you can hear any is toward the end, in the last couple of minutes occasionally, but even that is minimal for a record of this age and type. I was shocked at how good it was having not played it for perhaps 4 years. The sound is absolutely crystal clear, strong and without again as Side 1 a single 'click' or 'pop' of any kind!!!

It is said that only 1000 of these "turquoise" records were ever made. If that is so, then how many still exist today? And of those, how many have not been trashed over the years or played on poor quality equipment and exist today in anything like collectable condition?

I have seen perhaps 7 or 8 over the years and have always felt this was the best one I had seen. This of course does not take into account how they may have played and sounded.

Playing this again after so many years I was genuinely astonished at how good it sounded. Given its age, the type of record, the rarity etc etc, this is a really lovely copy and one that I believe will be overall very hard to beat
