Description
Here for auction is a very special example of the self-titled first album by LED ZEPPELIN, Catalogue Number 588 171. This is an ORIGINAL 1969 UK STEREO PRESSING on the RED/MAROON ATLANTIC RECORD LABEL, with THE EARLIEST SUPERHYPE MUSIC/JEWEL MUSIC PUBLISHING CREDITS on the record labels and THE EARLIEST A//1, B//1 MATRIX NUMBERS. Superhype credited red & maroon labels are extremely rare. Apart from the 1000 or so 1st pressings with turquoise lettered sleeves, the vast majority of subsequent pressings carry the Warner Bros publishing credits. Consequently I believe this to be a very early pressing.
The fully-laminated single sleeve, printed and made by MacNeill Press Ltd., London, is in VERY GOOD+ CONDITION (strictly graded). The front and back covers are unmarked with just a few laminate creases which are mostly near the edges. The top and bottom edges are near perfect with barely any wear at all. The opening edges are in fine shape with only light signs of use. The corners are fairly square with just a little rubbing at the tips. The spine is also in fine shape with all text clearly legible and the ends neatly crimped. There are no rips, stickers or writing. Overall a very presentable example of this iconic sleeve!!
The record is very solidly pressed – a beautiful Atlantic heavyweight! It has a thick, square-cut rim edge and sits flat and true on the turntable.

Both sides display quite a few surface marks, although most of these are purely superficial and do not cause any audio problems. I would grade both sides visually as very good. The beautiful red & maroon Atlantic labels are completely unmarked with only a moderate amount of spindle traces near the centres.
PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:
This is a particularly powerful and vibrant stereo recording which sounds absolutely amazing played at loud volume. Both sides play to a very high standard. All frequencies are crystal clear and there is barely any discernable deterioration of the sound quality. There are no skips, jumps or loud pops. Side One plays near faultlessly with only very low levels of unwanted noise. Side Two plays with a little more surface sound, and the occasional click, but these are never intrusive. I just can’t stress enough how good this sounds!
Complete with plain white inner sleeve which is in very good condition. There are no splits or tears, just light creasing and some age discoloration. “MADE IN ENGLAND” and “PATENT NO…” are printed in blue text at the bottom.
