LED ZEPPELIN – Led Zeppelin ORIG Atlantic LP / 588 171 (UK, Stereo, 1969)
Happy to present Zeppelin’s debut in its authentic UK 2nd press with the ‘Superhype’ label credits and 588 171 A1/B1 matrices (corrected) matrices. THIS IS THE VERY FIRST OF THE ORANGE SLEEVE ISSUES and is probably as rare as the famed Turquoise issue, if not more so?
The single format, fully laminated sleeve was manufactures in the UK by MacNeill Press of London and is a great, above average example in VG+ (Very Good Plus) condition. There’s a couple of ‘thumb’ creases to the front, some laminate lift along the spine edge (not cracked), some bigger (but still light) creasing to the rear top left, slightly softened corners, some handling impressions to the front and a slight bend to the top front left corner. Overall still strong and pleasing.
The original plum/orange labels with the all important ‘Superhype’ credit to both sides are fine with no writing, stickers or tears but they do show moderate spindle usage showing this has had some play. Still attractive and bright with no loss of colour.
The mediumweight disc is a solid example, but as with most copies of this iconic rock LP, does show some marks and use. There are around a half dozen fine hairlines and several other small scratches and nicks. Add some scuffing to this and the surfaces look USED but NOT ABUSED. Visually looks a workmanlike VG (Very Good). IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays fine, but do expect the occasional light tick and some underlying crackle in the quieter areas.
RARE, very early UK Zeppelin with still plenty of life left. No reserve.
