Description
Pressing & Identity Details
- The Album: Led Zeppelin – Untitled (Led Zeppelin IV) [Catalog No. SD 7208]. [1]
- Production Year: 1971 Original First Pressing. This is definitively verified by the rim text reading 1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.. In 1973, Atlantic Records transitioned their labels to the 75 Rockefeller Plaza address. [1, 2]
- Manufacturing Plant: Presswell Records Co. in Ancora, New Jersey. This is cross-verified by two independent identifiers:
- The printed PR suffix appended to the label matrix code (ST-A-712285 PR).
- The corresponding handwritten PR etching located natively in the dead wax. [1]
- The Engineer: The signature stands for Atlantic Studios / George Piros. Piros was Atlantic's premier chief mastering engineer, famous for pushing the dynamic boundaries of analog vinyl cutting. [1]
- The Audio Profile: Piros master cuts are universally celebrated for their massive, tight low-end bass and sharp transient clarity. He deliberately master-cut this record "hot" (maximizing the depth and volume of the grooves), which brings John Bonham’s thunderous ambient drums and Jimmy Page’s blues-rock tracking to vibrant life.
