ORIGINAL pressing of the superb and widely acclaimed Robert Ludwig mastered LP edition of LED ZEPPELIN - HOUSES OF THE HOLY - 1973 Atlantic Records USA - SD 7255. This is an ORIGINAL pressing -- has the 1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y. address on the labels. Pressings that have the 75 Rockefeller Plaza address, for example, are not original pressings. Stamper numbers/letters in the trail-off vinyl / "dead wax" are as follows: Side One: ST - A - 732783 - B Side Two: ST - A - 732784 - D Both sides have the STERLING RL designation (Sterling is the mastering house, RL is for Robert Ludwig, the mastering engineer). Robert "Bob" Ludwig is among the greatest mastering engineers in the history of recorded music. He is famous for putting his magical touch on the mastering of several critically acclaimed "top audio" / audiophile editions of albums by Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Roxy Music and many more. Contrary to what you may read on other auctions for LP editions of this album and Led Zeppelin II, Robert Ludwig had nothing to do with the actual "mix" of these albums. These albums were already mixed when he got to work on them. His job was to master them in a way that would help bring out the best sonic value of what the mixing engineer, producer and actual artist intended. So, when you read about the so-called, "hot mix" that he is credited with, you will be all the wiser (and you can send the auction holders that describe the "hot mix" a note, correcting them, and in the process, educating them as well. Just sayin'. Vinyl is VG++ ...some light sleeve scuffs that do not affect play and two very tiny surface marks that cause a few light audible ticks that occur at the beginning of the song, "Over the Hills and Far Away," (lasts only a few seconds) and a few light clicks about one minute into the song, "No Quarter" (lasting only a few seconds). Otherwise, this LP plays beautifully and retains much of its original sheen. The excellent, balanced sonics from this recording, and the Robert Ludwig mastering make his edition of Houses of the Holy, the best, in my opinion, of any that have ever been pressed (including the Classic Records edition from about a decade ago). Gatefold jacket/cover is VG+ ...there is a thin cut line down the center of the front that you can notice at certain angles. It is relatively minor and does not detract from the art work (please see photo). Otherwise, the jacket is excellent, with a couple of light marks and light edge wear on the opening side and a tiny bit of wear on one corner. There is a little bit of a rippling effect on the inner gatefold. The original inner sleeve with all song lyrics and credits (and the original 1841 Broadway address mentioned) is VG++ ...no seam splits. The actual LP is enclosed in a seperate poly-lined paper sleeve (from Audio Systems & Design, a small hi-fi chain in business during the 1970's). Enclosed in a protective poly outer sleeve.
