Led Zeppelin I A1/B1 Red/Plum Label (Superhype credit)
This mega early red/plum pressing plays with a excellent audio and only minimal interference. The vinyl itself is in lovely condition and is one of the cleanest I have seen in a long time.
This is one of the earliest versions as it has the rare 'Superhype' credit on the labels as per the first 'turquoise' pressing and this makes it very collectable. These editions were certainly pressed in fewer numbers as far more are found today with the 'Warner Bros' credit hence the rarity of the one I am selling.
The cover with the orange lettering is in excellent order with only a little shelf wear and of course has the grey stripe/band along the bottom edge.

Visual grading
They don't get much better than this! Rarely have I seen a 'Superhype' red/plum as clean as this and it still has a radiant glossy sheen despite being 50 years old. There is just one small faint mark on S1 and one very small scratch on S2 but apart from that it is in fantastic condition! There are only a couple of very faint hairlines and I honestly do not think there can be many around as impressive as this! There is some spindle wear but not an excessive amount and the run out grooves and labels are also in lovely condition.
Play grading
'Good Times Bad Times' has only minimal static for the first 3/4 seconds and then plays extremely well. There is only a touch of minor static in a couple of places but there is no actual intrusion on the audio, no clicks or pops at all. There is no distortion either and the fade out also provides a fine example of the clarity on offer here. This easily grades as Ex+ although I may be underselling it a little! Many sections do indeed play better than that.
The acoustic intro on 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You' plays beautifully and continues to play without any clicks or pops but there is some static in the background after 20 seconds or so. By no means is it loud but you can hear it and perhaps with another clean or repeated plays it would improve it further. Don't get me wrong the audio is still strong and clear and it remains an excellent listen. The louder sections are without fault and it is only the quieter parts that have a little background static. The quieter end section has a little more static so will grade it as VG but the remainder is worthy of an Ex grading. However, as per the previous track many sections do play to a higher level.
'You Shook Me' has some light static on the intro but again no clicks or pops. It continues to play in a similar way with some background static but again there is much to like here and for a 50 year old record the audio is excellent. The instrumental section plays incredibly well with only some light static here and there. The harmonica section and Page's solo both play with great definition and power. The final vocal has only minimal static (and I do mean minimal!) and Plant's vocal prowess at the end is superb! Barely any 'background'. Another Ex track in my opinion.
The bass intro on 'Dazed And Confused' has only light static and as the first vocal comes in the clarity is very impressive and has no interference at all. Thereafter the audio is stunning and has no distortion at all, a rarity for any final track let alone one of this age. The mid quiet section has only a little static and I repeat no clicks or pops! As the volume increases the audio cannot be faulted, the power and depth here is awesome! It has to be played loud! Page's solo is so strong - no distortion and basically no interference at all, wow! The rest of track does not disappoint and the final vocal brings S1 to a satisfying close with no intrusion on the audio. This deserves an Ex+ grading but again...many sections play better :-)

The organ intro on 'Your Time Is Gonna Come' as always has some static/crackle but it is not loud and there are no clicks or pops. As Bonham hits the first beat the audio is very strong and carries on in the same way. There is perhaps just a minor amount of static in the background here and there but it is extremely quiet and totally non-intrusive. The first chorus is faultless and the remainder of the track also plays to a very high standard. This is bordering on Near Mint but I will grade as Ex+ just to be on the safe side. The end second half in particular is stunning!
The segue into 'Black Mountain Side' could not play any better and the first half of the instrumental plays with stunning clarity. There is then one very brief skip/pop sound followed by four light clicks caused by the very small scratch as previously mentioned. The rest of the track is without incident so whilst the vast majority is Near Mint there is a five second section that grades as G+ in my opinion.
'Communication Breakdown' is mega strong from the first groove and continues in the same manner. Perhaps just a hint of distortion but it is so minor and you can turn this up to loud easily! A superb Near Mint version with no clicks or pops. A very clean fade out also.
There is one pop in the dead wax but the vocal intro on 'I Can't Quit You Baby' then plays very cleanly with barely any static. This quiet opening continues to impress and whilst there is a touch of light static in no way can it be classed as intrusive. Each instrument can be heard clearly, there is no 'muddiness' to the sound, and Page's long solo pays testament to that. It plays with wonderful precision and clarity! The quiet vocal that follows is again of a very high standard and to the end it plays with only the bare minimum of static. This is a very impressive version of this classic and Near Mint- is a fair assessment.
The bass intro on 'How Many More Times' is very clean with only a couple of mega light ticks and no static. The first 'high octane' vocal/riff section is very strong and has audio that is so deep and rich. Superb! If there is any distortion it is so minimal and totally insignificant! It continues to play with sublime power and depth and the first quiet section is so impressive with only minimal background static. The 'Oh Rosie' section has no interference at all other than a hint of distortion on the vocal and the remainder plays with great power and definition. Overall for such a rare early pressing this classic plays with 'high end' audio with no clicks or pops and Ex+ is a fair grading.
In summary this rare and collectable red/plum pressing plays with excellent clarity and very little interference. In fact the only obvious interference is the 4/5 seconds on 'Black Mountain Side' on S2. Aside from that there is only minimal static and no other clicks or pops at all. There cannot be many 'Superhype' version that play as well as this and as stated the vinyl itself is visually in beautiful condition.
The Cover
The iconic laminated cover has only minimal wear and is in excellent condition. The only obvious wear is some creasing on the lower left corner but apart from that is very clean indeed. The edges rarely have no rubbing and the thin pinched spine is in great shape aside from the creasing at the bottom and remains 100% legible. The other corners have hardly any rubbing and the opening edge has no handling wear at all! The front cover is very clean with no marking and only a handful of faint laminate creases and as you always find on the red/plum pressings there is some minor laminate lift either side of the spine. The back cover is extremely clean with no marking and only a couple of faint crease. Overall a very impressive cover with a very clean 'grey' band and only that one obvious sign of wear. I have graded as Ex- but it would easily be Ex if it didn't have that creasing in the corner.
Inner Sleeve
The 'Plastic Bags...' poly-lined inner is in excellent condition with no side splits or tears and only a little age related fading around the edges and some minor creasing. It has an '0770' date code printed on one side so I am not entirely sure if it is the original as it does seem a little late for this pressing. Still good to have it though!
The Labels
They are in beautiful condition and still have their strong red/orange and plum colour. There is no marking or writing, just some spindle wear as stated. Superb examples!
