It is my pleasure to offer a lovely example of the iconic second studio album by LED ZEPPELIN simply titled "LED ZEPPELIN II", Catalogue Number 588198. This is a 1969 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the PLUM & ORANGE ATLANTIC RECORD LABEL, with a 1st ISSUE E. J. DAY & CO. LIGHT BROWN MATT-FINISH GATEFOLD SLEEVE. Complete with the original white poly-lined inner sleeve.

 

The sleeve is the earliest possible design with pronounced blue green edges (in fact more pronounced than on any other LZ II sleeve that I have ever seen). These blue green edged sleeves are very rare in their own right - even most of the mis-credited "Livin' Lovin' Wreck" labelled pressings don't have them. The Side One record label credits "The Lemon Song". The matrix numbers are the earliest 588198 Av2 and 588198 Bv2 (where v = upside-down triangle). These features confirm this to be a very early first press copy.

 

The sleeve is in VG+ condition with just light storage wear and a few creases. There are no rips, splits, writing or any other serious defects. I have taken plenty of photos which enable you to judge the condition for yourself. Please note the pronounced blue green edges.    

                       

The top quality 150g record is visually in close to EX condition. It retains a deep glossy shine and shows only a few very light surface marks when angled against bright light. The plum & orange Atlantic labels are unmarked with only a modest number of spindle traces each side. There is minimal wear to the spindle hole. Both sides play excellently throughout with barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality and hardly any unwanted noise at all (just a few light background pops in a couple of places which are not intrusive and only mentioned for complete accuracy). If you haven't listened to an A2/B2 pressing of LZ II before you will be in for a pleasant surprise. There is a world of difference between the A2/B2 1st pressings and all later pressings (including the plum & orange labelled "Killing Floor" second pressings), which lack the power and bass and sheer audio impact of the A2/B2 pressings. It never ceases to amaze me just how much power is packed into these A2/B2 grooves. The record offered here will not disappoint! 

 

Overall this is a lovely early 1st press copy with an ultra-rare blue greed edged sleeve and simply massive audio.

 

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Sony PS-X600 turntable fitted with an AT-30E MC cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My grading is strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.

     All records can be expected to rotate sufficiently evenly on the turntable for there to be no effect whatsoever on the audio playback. Minor warps or dishing will not be mentioned as virtually all records display these features to some degree and no record is perfectly flat.

 

PACKAGING         

LPs are packaged with care and well protected to ensure that they arrive safely in the same condition as they leave me. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
