LED ZEPPELIN II A2 / B2 Atlantic 58818 UK 1969 RED/PLUM Label
This second pressing on the red/plum label has immaculate audio as detailed below. It has 'The Lemon Song' credit on the label as opposed to 'Killing Floor' which is on the later pressings.

Visual grading
This vinyl has been played a number of times judging by the amount of spindle wear but I am glad to say it has obviously been very carefully handled down the years as the audio is of an immaculate standard. It retains a beautiful glossy sheen and whilst S1 has a couple of obvious hairlines they in no way affect the astounding sound quality. Aside from that the vinyl is visually stunning with only a couple of other faint hairlines caused by sleeve removal.
Play grading
'Whole Lotta Love' has fabulous audio with a barely audible amount of static on the intro. The instrumental section plays in superb fashion with only one mega faint click on the guitar solo. The 'quiet' vocal section near the end is nigh on perfect with just no interference whatsoever. This classic track grades as Near Mint easily such is the dynamic quality. The fade out has no 'background', absolutely stunning!
The quiet intro on 'What is and What Should Never Be' plays as Mint the clarity is incredible. The remainder of the track equals this standard and is without doubt one of the best versions I have ever heard on any pressing let alone a red/plum one. It plays so cleanly and there are no negatives. It is so 'clean' and the depth of the bass and strength of the lead guitar is breathtaking and again there is no 'background' on the fade out.
'The Lemon Song' continues in the same way with perhaps just a touch of static on the top end. However, I am listening out for any faults and just write what I hear. It is barely audible and certainly non-intrusive. This classic still plays with stunning beauty and again the bass is so strong in the mix and plays superbly. No clicks, pops, crackle or jumps again.
There is some light static on the quieter sections of 'Thank You' but in my opinion it is negligible and does not interfere with what is another high quality listen. Needless to say there are no clicks or pops. The background static is a little more obvious towards the end but as all Led Zepp fans know the end of this track always has some interference. However, it is only minor here and the fade out/in/out section actually plays with great clarity and very little 'background'. I would say you won't find many better red/plum versions of this track.

'Heart Breaker' has one faint 'tick' at the beginning and then plays with stunning audio and no other interference. The clarity, depth and power is second to none you would think you were listening to a vinyl pressed yesterday! The quiet mid section just plays perfectly with no 'background', wow! This is definitely one of the best, if not the best, versions of this classic I have ever heard and grades as Mint- in my humble opinion.
'Livin' Lovin Maid' unsurprisingly plays with the same quality. It has great range and power and again grades as Mint- such is the quality. No distortion on this side thus far also which is a rarity.
I cannot stress just how good the 'Ramble On' intro is! It is just Mint there is no other description for it. In fact the rest of the track plays in the same sublime fashion. This is how quality audio should be heard. The sonic quality and depth of the sound is just superb. The fade out has no 'background' whatsoever. The clarity is astounding.
'Moby Dick' is once again absolutely stunning. The intro and drum section play with wonderful clarity and all I heard on the latter was a couple of mega light dust ticks. I have rarely heard this track play so well.
The long quiet intro on 'Bring It On Home' is just a shade off being perfect. I can't put into words just how clear the audio is - there are only a handful of mega light dust ticks but to all intents and purposes this again is audio of the highest calibre. There is no distortion on the guitar section and the quiet end section plays with supreme clarity also and no interference whatsoever.
In summary this is a final upgrade, archive second pressing that will not disappoint the purist. S1 is spectacular but if anything S2 is even better! I sold a 'Lemon Song' A2/B2 pressing last month but I honestly believe this one plays with even greater distinction. For a vinyl approaching 50 years of age to have such a lack of interference is an incredible rarity and barring 'Thank You' which still plays incredibly well this is a final upgrade, museum copy for certain.
Gatefold cover
The E.J. Day gatefold is in excellent condition for its age with only minor shelf wear. The edges are very clean with a small amount of rub marks and the spine remains in great shape and the band name and catalogue number is still 100% legible. There is a little wear at the top and bottom of the spine. The right hand corners also have some creasing/wear the most prominent of which is on the bottom right corner. The front cover is very clean with a couple of minor marks towards the top right and the back has a little ringwear but no marking. Not perfect but it is definitely one of the cleanest you will find on such an early pressing. The inside of the gatefold is in superb condition with no marking at all. The opening edge does have some handling wear but I repeat it's rare to find a record of this age that has been so well played but so carefully handled that the audio condition has not been affected.
Inner sleeve
The original poly-lined 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no splits just some light creasing. It has the patent numbers plus 'Made In England' and 069 printed on one side which refers to the release date.
The Labels
The red/plum labels are very clean although S1 does have a small imprint where it looks like a small sticker may have been once. It is hardly visible though. Aside from that there are no other markings or writing, only some spindle wear.
Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
