LED ZEPPELIN II RL Hot Mix ATLANTIC SD 8236 super rare 1st U.S. pressing featuring the infamous Robert Ludwig HOT MIX with "RL" etched on BOTH sides.

Presswell Pressing Plant in New Jersey as indicated by the "PR" on the labels.

Test played on Cambridge Audio receiver through Klipsch speakers on a Technics turntable with Nagaoka cartridge. Set treble to 6 in order to better determine condition.

VINYL in VG condition, strong VG criminally close to VG+ in most sections, quieter segments have some background crackle, but overall an extremely strong player.

surface has several light scuffs and hairlines that ALL copies of this title have, but they do not cause loud clicks or overwhelming background crackle.

 The end of "Thank You" has a soft repeating click during the end fade out, but it is not louder than the music and not too distracting. During the quieter parts of "Moby Dick" during the drum solo I noticed the crackle when more, but still not annoying, this is a super solid player and these Presswell are always first class in terms of full wide sound.

No repeats or skips on my system, one of the best copies I have heard of this version. Not many clean copies out there it seems, and many are trashed that I have come across, this one is a keeper, not perfect but damn enjoyable.

COVER in VG condition with yellowing/staining on white areas, imprint of old price sticker on front, corner dings, spine fully readable and intact with rubbing wear along edges. top seam intact with rubbing/paper loss and chipping in middle section. Bottom seam has 3" split at opening, rubbing, chipping starting in middle.

Inside gatefold looks beautiful, no splits, small pen mark on upper right hand side, small area of paper loss near the pen mark at top section.

INNER SLEEVE in VG+ condition. Original Atlantic advertising sleeve has corner crease, yellowing/staining, side seams clear taped (looks good).

LP shipped in proper mailer with added cardboard strengtheners with record removed to prevent splitting.

Notes:

US 1st pressing (with the 1841 Broadway address on the labels), featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.

On some copies the Sterling Sound credit, "SS", appears in both runouts following Ludwig's "RL", and on others the "SS" appears only in the Side Two runout. The "RL" will still appear in both runouts.

Comes in a gatefold sleeve.

This sub should only be used for copies with "RL" in both runouts. Later transitional pressings which featuring "RL" on only one side and another engineer's work on the other should receive their own subs.

"PR" in label matrix denotes a Presswell pressing.

"LW" in runouts indicates Longwear Plating metal parts.

"AT" in runouts indicates Atlantic Studios mastering

"W" in runouts indicates that blank lacquers came from the company Audiodisc.
