Description
- 1st U.S. pressing of Ledd Zeppelin II 1968 SD 8236. This is the ultra rare Robert Ludwig "Hot Mix" copy featuring RL in the deadwax on both sides and "SS" for Sterling Sound on side II. This is the Preswell version.
Vinyl is play tested as VG all around, but there are many areas that are more VG+. I noticed some crackle in the quieter sections of "Whole Lotta Love" and in the quieter areas of "What Is And What Shall Never Be", but not overwhelming. Side 2 I noticed crackle at the beginning of "Ramble ON" but not too bad, surprisingly good sounding for the marks on the record. The quieter sections of "Moby Dick", and the beginning of "How Many More Times" also had some noticeable crackle that didn't over-take the listening experience. The rest plays at VG+ with incredibly loud and "airy" sound that these RL pressings are known for. A beast of a record!! A solid VG with marks that plays loud and clear throughout the majority of the record.
Cover in solid VG+ condition. Solid except for a 3" split on the top seam. Some yellowing in the white area , but overall really nice. There a R103692 stamped on the back which indicates that the cover is from different pressing.

US 1st pressing (with the 1841 Broadway address on the labels), featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.On some copies the Sterling Sound credit, "SS", appears in both runouts following Ludwig's "RL", and on others the "SS" appears only in the Side Two runout. The "RL" will still appear in both runouts.
This sub should only be used for copies with "RL" in both runouts, as only these are the true "RL" pressings which command hundreds of dollars (albeit in Near Mint condition). Later transitional pressings which featuring "RL" on only one side and another engineer's work on the other should receive their own subs.
"PR" in label matrix denotes a Presswell pressing.
