Led Zeppelin : Led Zeppelin III A5 / B5 1st Press Peter Grant credit 1970
This genuine first press plays with stunning quality with barely any intrusion and is one of the finest examples I have ever listened to. The only background is a small number of very light ticks on the 'Since I've Been Loving You' intro but they really are very quiet and not what you call intrusive. This lasts for all of 4/5 seconds! The rest of S1 is incredible and that applies to all the quieter sections also. As for S2 - wow! There is no intrusion and 'as new' sums it up perfectly. I know that is a bold statement to make but having played every track in full (as always) I am confident in my grading. The clarity, depth and power of the audio on both sides is STUNNING and you would be hard pressed to find a better first pressing.
The iconic gatefold is in excellent shape with only light wear and 'wheel' still rotates perfectly. The original inner sleeve in in excellent condition also.
This first pressing of course has the Peter Grant credit on both labels and the A5 / B5 matrix.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a fine glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can only Only when I look under a bright light can I see some faint hairlines that clearly have no impact on the audio. The run out grooves are unmarked and the iconic red / plum Atlantic labels still have their deep colour, no marking, and only a little spindle wear. S2 has perhaps just a bit more.
Play grading
To begin with 'Immigrant Song' powers through with stunning quality and no interference. Each note is crystal clear and there is no distortion on the top end. This is a Mint start without doubt.
The 'band' intro on 'Friends' is close to perfect with only one light static tick and then the acoustic opening has no background at all. Plant's first vocal is perfect and it continues to play with a sonic quality that cannot be faulted. There is literally no intrusion on the audio and Mint is deserved.
The Moog segue into 'Celebration Day' is stunning and the intro is just as strong. The opening vocal is flawless and as Bonham enters the scene that's when the real depth and power really kicks in. The quality does not drop - it plays loud and true through every section with... zero interference. Playing as strong as it would've done back in '70 there are no negatives. Great power and definition - I will grade as Mint- as there are a couple of very light ticks right at the end of the fade out!
The intro on 'Since I've Been Loving You' has a small number of light ticks but they are non-intrusive because they are so quiet. After 4/5 seconds they disappear and the rest of the intro plays to perfection. Plant's first vocal is equal to that and it continues in exactly the same way. Page's mid solo plays with sublime quality and again there is no distortion. The relatively quiet section that follows has not even a dust tick and the remainder of this classic is of the same high end standard. A stunning version that grades as Ex for the first few seconds and is then Mint from that point on.
'Out On The Tiles' so often plays with a fair amount of distortion but... not here! This is one of the cleanest versions I have heard in many a year and the sonic quality is hugely impressive. The opening vocal and chorus have no intrusion and you can turn it up to max without having to turn it down immediately! The instrumental end section is stunning! The power and depth here is tangible and this level is kept up to the very end and there is no background on the fade out. What a version! I will say Mint- just to err on the side of caution!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The run in on S1 is so clean and the acoustic intro on 'Gallows Pole' is just the same with no background. The opening vocal section is just as impressive - a superb start, a genuine rarity for this track. As the volume increases the playback is sensational with Jones' strong bass adding so much depth. Bonham's introduction enhances the sonic quality and it continues to play with imperious quality from then onwards. It's a 'busy' track and yet nothing is lost musically and there is none of the tinny distortion that you so often find. Another perfect fade out and another Mint track.
The brief acoustic into on 'Tangerine' plays perfectly as does the few seconds of silence that follows. The opening vocal is just as clean and as it progresses it is again the clarity of sound that stands out. There is nothing to detract from the audio, the sonic quality is just STUNNING! You could not wish to find a more 'complete' version and Mint is richly deserved.
'That's The Way' again plays to the highest standard possible - I do not wish to be repetitive but the audio quality is phenomenal. This side is largely acoustic of course so there is no hiding place but the clarity, depth and warmth of the audio here is first class. Everything is 10/10 and you know the grade. Mint with not one solitary dust tick let alone anything more. A sensational version in every way, 'as new' you could say.
'Bron-Y-Aur' more than keeps up the standard and plays with stunning quality from start to finish. The clarity is amazing and I just have to grade it as Mint
'Hat's Off To (Roy) Harper' ends this incredible album with sublime sonic quality and no intrusion. This may well be the finest S2 I have ever listened to, not bad for a genuine first press! This track again shows just how well this vinyl has been preserved as it plays with perfect clarity from the first note to the last. This is unequivocally a Mint conclusion to the album. I mean every track on this side grades as Mint there is not even one Mint minus!
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The laminated cover is in excellent condition and as stated the 'wheel' is still in working order. The top edge has only very minimal rubbing in the centre and is 'open' there so as to allow the wheel to rotate, it is always found like this. The other edges are very clean with barely any wear and the spine is also in superb shape, 'as new' in fact. All corners have been very well preserved with no obvious wear and the opening edge hardly any handling wear either. The front cover has only very faint fading along the bottom edge and a little laminate creasing in that right corner. The back is often found discoloured but this one is very clean with only minimal fading by the bottom edge. There is some laminate creasing mainly in the bottom left corner but again this is not excessive. The inside of the gatefold is superb with only a couple of minor 'specks'. A fine example overall.
The original Plastic Bags inner (dated 0770) has a new poly-liner placed inside and remains in excellent shape with no side splits and only a couple of small tears on the central aperture. It has a little age related fading around the edges and just a little creasing.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
