Description
Led Zeppelin’s fourth (and some would say best) album, catalogue No. 2401012 on the Atlantic Red/Plum label. An SUPERLATIVE example of this original 1971 UK FIRST PRESSING. The matrices are A3 and B3. This has the famous ‘Pecko Duck’ and ‘Porky’ etchings in the run off grooves on each side and there is also the ‘Misty Mountain TOP’ mispelling on the label of side two. As with all these early Zeppelin pressings the power they got into those grooves is astonishing ! This COMPLETELY DISTORTION FREE copy has a tremendous power and presence that surges out of the speakers and (very pleasantly) kicks you in the aural senses !! Bonzo’s drums are always a revelation and here it feels like you’re right there with him when He’s pounding out ‘Four Sticks’ and ‘When The Levee Breaks’. The detail and clarity of the quieter passages in ‘Stairway’ and ‘The Battle Of Evermore’ are wonderful !! The vinyl is in COMPLETELY UNMARKED PRISTINE condition with a MIRROR LIKE SHEEN !! There is ABSOLUTELY NO DISTORTION from groove wear, even on the difficult to track inner grooves. The vinyl really should grade at least as NEAR MINT, but due to some light crackle on the side one and two run ins and some very, very light ticks in the first half of 'Black Dog', it has to grade as EXCELLENT+. The sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition also. There is only a little wear apparent on any of the edges and spine. The soft card inner sleeve is also in fine order and has only a slight split on one side and a tear to the top edge. Lastly, the labels which are FANTASTIC ! There are only a few spindle marks and it obviously has been BARELY PLAYED ! The colours are as vibrant and fresh as they were in 71’. This is without doubt the best copy I have EVER heard, the audio reproduction is STUNNING ! A RARE and TRULY FANTASTIC example of an awesome record by an awesome band captured at the height of their powers !!
