UK press red/plum label which has the inverted feather AND the 'Top' misprint.

This has the following matrix numbers:

2401012 A//3 and 2401012 B//3 and the run-outs are etched with PECKO DUCK and PORKY.

The cover has various signs of wear and age etc, in particular, repairs and remnants of old repairs to the seams and wear to the edges, spine and corners, other scuffs and marks etc. (Good to Fair condition)

The inner sleeve is in poor condition, with repairs, tears, bits missing etc. (Poor condition)

Vinyl: The record has lots of marks, scuffs, scratches etc, but I have played the entire record and the whole thing play-grades above its visual grading.

Led Zep IV has a wide variance in recorded sound from very loud to very quiet, and different tracks play-grade at different levels, with the best on this copy being close to Excellent (Ex) and the worst being around Good (G), so rather than just giving an overall grading I am providing a track-by-track play-grade (with additional comments as necessary):

Black Dog play-grades around G to G+. Some brief noise at the very start, some loudish clicks for a while in the middle, some crackle near the end.

Rock n Roll play-grades around Ex- to VG+. Generally sounds great (Ex), just some small clicks and crackle, mainly at the end.

Evermore play-grades around G+ to VG-. Some small clicks and crackle near the beginning, some louder clicks near the middle, some background noise.

Stairway play-grades as VG-. Generally sounds great, but some crackle and a few clicks near the end.

Misty Mountain Hop play-grades around VG to VG+. Just some minor crackle.

Four Sticks play-grades around VG to VG+. A bit of crackle and three or four clicks.

California play-grades around VG to VG-. Some crackle and a few clicks.

Levee play-grades around Ex to Ex-. Sounds great, with just a bit of fuzziness.

So, averaging the above track-by-track grades out, I would play-grade side one around Very Good minus (VG-) and side two around Very Good plus (VG+) with tracks that are above and tracks that are below these overall gradings. Note that the visual grading of the record would be lower.

All grades are based on the UK Record Collector Grading System:

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

POSTAGE & PACKING

Vinyl is removed from the sleeve for posting and the contents will be protected with rigid cardboard stiffeners. Packages are labelled "Do not bend" and securely sealed with "FRAGILE" parcel tape.
