LED ZEPPELIN IV A3 / B4 Atlantic 2401012 UK 1971 Red/Plum LABEL
Whilst there are about eight red/plum pressings of this classic album this A3/B4 version is commonly known as the second pressing. It has PECKO DUCK and Porky etched into the dead wax and Peter Grant is only credited as Executive producer on the inner sleeve only.
This is a transitional issue in that it is one of the stickered versions; it has the new Atlantic catalogue number sticker on the back cover.

I would grade the vinyl as Ex+
The gatefold cover is Ex-
The labels are Ex+
The original inner sleeve is VG-
Visual grading
Under a bright light there are a number of faint hairlines and some more obvious ones but as described below they do not really affect the audio. There are no deep feelable scratches at all and whilst this vinyl has been played a number of times it still retains excellent audio quality. The record lies perfectly flat on the turntable.
Play grading
Side One starts with hardly any lead static and 'Black Dog' proceeds to play with wonderful audio and almost no background static. There is a little distortion on the higher levels perhaps but this is common on vinyls of this age. 'Rock and Roll' sounds fantastic with only three clicks towards the end. 'The Battle of Evermore' plays extremely well also with only a little light static and no pops or clicks. The quiet intro to the classic 'Stairway to Heaven' plays with light static but is not intrusive and the sound quality is excellent. Again there is a little distortion but the whole track plays without any loud crackle, clicks or pops and is a quality listen.
There is one pop right at the beginning of 'Misty Mountain Hop' and the rest of the track plays without issue. 'Four Sticks' plays loud and with no interference. 'Going to California' only has minor background static here and there and for such a quiet track plays exceptionally well. 'When the Levee Breaks' end the side with classic sound and no interference, just some distortion on the higher levels again. Great sound quality in my opinion.
Gatefold cover
Overall the gatefold is in excellent condition although as can be seen there is some writing on the top right corner. The edges and wide spine are very clean indeed but the corners do have some rubbing. The inside is in excellent shape with only very minor spotting. The back cover again is in excellent order with no marking and has the sticker as mentioned previously.
Inner sleeve
Sadly the inner sleeve has some wear and has seen better days. There is a large split at the bottom and a smaller one to the side and some tears to the top. Hey at least it's still with the LP!
The labels
They are in excellent condition with just a couple of very faint marks and some spindle wear.
