Up for auction here is one of the holy grails for Led Zeppelin fans & Classic Rock collectors alike-An original 1971 Atlantic Plum label copy (matrices A/3-B/4) of the mighty Zeps 'Symbols' lp or '4' as it is known..What makes this particular copy very rare is the mistakes made on the label crediting their manager Peter Grant as the executive producer (this was removed in later copies)..not only that is incorrect but the Feather symbol on Side 2 of the lp is inverted or upside down.This was also removed on later copies,but this particular label variant is even rarer than the Peter Grant sleeve error.There are also other differences in the label print from other later copies-here it has the 'under licence for Atlantic Corps USA' script is in the red part,not in the white centre band.Also the band name Led Zeppelin is in the Plum part in the bottom half,and not under the symbols in the top half of the red section..On to the lp and i will say from the off,that this copy is really not in pristine condition so please don't expect perfection during playback.If you are a perfectionist,maybe this is not the album for you..What i will say is that although the record has many marks and scuffs it plays through ok.I playtested the lp as i do with all my vinyl i put up on my Acoustic Research classic turntable.Expect some crackle and clicks in places..most noticeable during a section of Stairway to Heaven,but it really isnt too bad and overall the record plays very well without any jumps or anything to spoil the listeners enjoyment.As always i try to describe the item as honestly as i can.The inner sleeve is intact,but taped along the bottom seam and a bit frayed with slight tearing along the top but it's ok and all script is readable.The actual gatefold sleeve is in lovely condition with only very light ring/cornerwear and some slight spotting/stain on the rear..again overall a nice enough example of a 44 year old sleeve.I'm putting this up at what i feel is a very fair starting price for a flawed but incredibly rare lp.As usual any questions about the lp are more than welcome.I will post anywhere in the known universe.Thanks for looking in and happy bidding.. :)
