Now I really don't know what to tell you about this record as I've never seen a transparent purple vinyl copy before. It looks, sounds and feels like a genuine 1970s pressing and I bought it in a collection of good 70s UK rock that included a few Zeppelin first pressings and promotional items, so I'm as certain as I can be that this isn't a bootleg. The catalogue number is the standard 1970s reissue number, and the matrix numbers are the same as the 1978 matt lilac vinyl reissue. My first thought was, "Is this a test pressing for the lilac version?" There is some marbling in the finish that might indicate that it may have been a rejected pressing.
The sleeve feels more like a mid 70s version. The labels are the standard grooved green white and orange reissue ones and state that the record was made in the UK, but where this copy differs from others is in the label text. Side One says "Warner Bros. Music A USA Recording P 1971" at 6 o'clock which is standard, and the "All rights of the manufacturer..." text runs from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock. However, Side Two says "Kinney Music Ltd/Superhype Music Inc P 1971" at 6 o'clock, and the rights text runs from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock as it finishes with "A Warner Communications Company" then the boxed W logo.
I have included a couple of photographs of this record next to a lilac vinyl copy so that you can see for yourselves how different this is. The original owner worked in the music business in London from 1970 to 1976, but he can't remember how it came into his possession. Actually, he can't remember much at all.
TRACK LISTING: SIDE ONE 1. Black Dog 2. Rock And Roll 3. The Battle Of Evermore 4. Stairway To Heaven SIDE TWO 1. Misty Mountain Hop 2. Four Sticks 3. Going To California 4. When The Levee Breaks
CONDITION: VINYL EXCELLENT+ Just a few very light surface marks. Excellent sound reproduction throughout. LABELS VERY GOOD/NEAR MINT Side One has some surface scratches and a crease that runs through the matrix number underneath the catalogue number. Side Two is as new. INNER SLEEVE EXCELLENT+ Uncreased and unmarked beige lyric inner with a little ringwear. The record is now stored in a new polylined paper sleeve. GATEFOLD SLEEVE NEAR MINT A beautiful example. Clean, unmarked and uncreased.
THE VARIOUS 'EXPERTS' WHO HAVE SEEN THIS HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO THROW ANY LIGHT ON IT. IF ANYONE OUT THERE CAN TELL ME MORE THEN PLEASE GET IN TOUCH.
A ONE OFF ZEPPELIN RARITY? I WISH I COULD TELL YOU.
ABOUT ME: If you haven't done business with me before my name is Andy Hibberd and I own a "bricks and mortar" secondhand record shop called 101 COLLECTORS RECORDS in Farnham, Surrey, about one hour out of central London. I deal in old and collectable vinyl, CDs, DVDs and memorabilia in all musical genres, as well as new releases and re-issues. Please feel free to get in touch if you need any further information about this item, if you have any questions about what's currently in stock, or if you have a collection for sale and need some advice.
All photographs are of the actual item offered for sale: I never use 'stock' pictures or re-use old photos of previously sold stock.
All items are listed for 10 days, running from Thursdays to Sundays. If you wish to leave a message, or ask a question, please try to do so before the last Sunday as I tend not to be chained to my laptop on my one day of the week off. Also, I always let my auctions run their full course, so please do not contact me asking if the item can be sold early. Live a little, enjoy the thrill of bidding.
Payment may only be made in UK £ Sterling: I accept PayPal, UK personal cheques (with bank guarantee card details), most credit/debit cards or good old-fashioned cash. On slow days feathers, beads and coloured glass baubles may also be considered...
I am always happy to receive any wants-lists, but file them carefully on little bits of paper under slightly larger bits of paper that aren't always quite where they should be. I will guarantee to find what you want within minutes of you a) finding it elsewhere, b) deciding you can live without Venezuelan Death Metal after all, or c) losing the will to live.
Despite that, all my vinyl is strictly graded using the Record Collector RRPG system, and all goods are properly protected and posted in strong, new Covers 33 packaging. Please recycle the packing cardboard if possible - it might just offset the damage done when the item was originally manufactured. Alternatively, throw it away and set fire to a couple of tyres.
If you are bidding, please read all descriptions fully and take the time to read my Postage and Packaging costs and my Returns Policy. Items selling for under £34 will be posted Royal Mail First Class in the UK, or by Airmail to destinations abroad. Items selling for £34 or above will only be posted by the Special Delivery Next Day service in the UK, which will include insurance. For similarily priced items selling to customers abroad I will only use the International Signed For service, which will also include insurance equal to the selling price. Certificates of Posting are obtained for all dispatched items without exception.
Please read my Feedback comments and look at my past sales: I am not an anonymous internet seller but a responsible and contactable UK record dealer. You can bid with confidence.

Having looked at the photographs on this page, the colour reproduction just doesn't do justice to the purple vinyl. I am told that digital cameras struggle to differentiate between some blues and purples, and this certainly seems to be the case with mine. Think the Pope's robes, think Prince at his 'Purple Rain' height, think Deep Purple late 70s vinyl reissues...that's the colour purple that we're talking about here!
