EARLIEST PRESS - HAND ETCHED MATRIX!! AN ARCHIVE COPY!
Here on offer from my personal collection! A very early original UK pressing of Led Zeppelin III. The audio on this album, in my opinion is as good as it gets for this pressing on vinyl, absolutely stunning separation and a real deep basey feel that can only be achieved from the earliest pressings and there is no other format than these early UK vinyls that even come close to the awesome feel that is produced!
Please note! The audio quality has always been the uppermost importance when I have purchased records over the years and I have always tried to seek out the earliest stampers that, in my personal opinion makes all the difference for the best audio quality! This album both the original 1st cover and the vinyl boasts of being very near perfect audio on my systems and in my opinion barely played! Almost impossible to ever find like this after 38 years!!!
It has been suggested that Led Zeppelin III was something of a watershed release for the band, as it marked a change from Page's domination of the first two albums towards a more democratic affair in which all four group members offered up their own compositions and ideas - a pattern that would continue in future sessions. The album added acoustic and folk rock elements to the band's established rock and blues repertoire, which also helped endear the band to progressive rock fans. However, some detractors attacked the heavier tracks as being mindless noise, whilst the acoustic material was criticised by others for imitating the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Although these negative reviews had a no effect on sales at the time, Led Zeppelin III was still a transatlantic #1 hit. Sales eventually lagged in the wake of Led Zeppelin I and II, but with the passage of time III's reputation has been praised considerably!!!.
The album contains two of Led Zeppelin's most well known songs: "Immigrant Song" and "Since I've Been Loving You". The first of these, written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, is about the Norse invasions of England and was inspired by the band's recent performances in Iceland. "Since I've Been Loving You" is a classic, original blues in the key C minor featuring heartfelt interplay by all four group members. It would become a performance staple of Led Zeppelin concerts, especially from 1971 through 1973, replacing Willie Dixon's "I Can't Quit You Baby" from the first album as the band's slow blues showcase. Other fan favourites from the album were the rock songs "Celebration Day" and "Out on the Tiles", and the acoustic tracks "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" (which was named after a place they stayed in mid Wales) and "That's the Way"(considered by many critics to be a breakthrough for still-developing lyric writer Plant). The song "Gallows Pole" is actually an arrangement of a traditional folk song by that name, also recorded by Lead Belly some thirty years earlier!!.
Led Zeppelin III's original vinyl edition was packaged in a gatefold sleeve with a novelty cover, designed by Richard Drew, a lecturer in fine arts at Leeds Polytechnic with a moving wheel. Moving an image into place behind one hole would usually bring one or two others into place behind other holes. This could not be replicated on a conventional cassette or CD cover, but there have been Japanese and British CDs packaged in miniature versions of the original sleeve. In France this album was released with a different album cover, simply showing a photo of the four band members!!!.
As always I have tried to give my honest personal opinion when describing items listed! Although it is my honest opinion! I always urge others to do their own personal research on any items that they are interested in purchasing, before, they commit to bidding!) I have highlighted all aspects as clearly as possible!! I have taken time to play this vinyl track for track to give a clear and accurate description of the audio quality. (Please look at my completed listings of albums that I have sold of this calibre (more than 1000 items) and you will see that I normally get it right) I have also provided as many photos as I can and supersized so that all aspects can be seen clearly in strong light!!!!!
THE VINYL IS THE HEAVIER AND THICKER ORIGINAL TYPE OF VINYL AND THEREFORE MUCH MORE ROBUST!! LATER PRESS WERE MUCH MORE FLIMSILY!! THIS VINYL LAYS PERFECTLY FLAT ON THE TURNTABLE AND STILL GLEEMS AND RETAIND ITS ORIGINAL SHEEN FROM NEW! INITIAL INSPECTION LOOKS LIKE NEW IN MY OPINION!!
INITIAL INSPECTION THE VINYL LOOKS AWESOME AND I CAN BARELY SEE TINY MARKS!!SUPER GLOSSY SHEEN FROM NEW!! ONLY IN STRONG LIGHT CAN YOU SEE ANY LIGHT WHYSPY MARKS, OR VERY FEW LIGHT SURFACE MARKS\BLEMISHES BE SEEN (IN FACT I CAN BARELY SEE ONE SURFACE SCUFF ON SIDE ONE ONLY AND THIS IS NON AUDIO SOUNDING! AND THESE WOULD BE NON AUDIO SOUNDING ON MY SYSTEM! THE AUDIO IS IN MY OPINION AS GOOD AS IT GETS TRULY STUNNING!! PLEASE NOTE! I HAVE PLAYED THIS VINYL THROUGH TRACK FOR TRACK AS USUAL ON A TOP SYSTEM A FEW TIMES PRIOR TO THIS LISTING AT VERY LOUD VOLUME! THIS PLAYS THROUGH CRYSTAL CLEAR AND VIBRANT WITH (NO) SIGNS OF ANY GROOVEWARE OR THAT THIS HAS BEEN OVERPLAYED AT ALL, IN FACT IT IS UITE OBVIOUS TO ME THAT THIS HAS BARELY EVER BEEN PLAYED ITH JUST MINIMAL SPIDERING ON THE LABELS! PLEASE ALLOW FOR THE ODD STATIC\TICK \CRACKLE (NOT) CONSISTANT THROUGHOUT THE AUDIO!! PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS A GENUINE ORIGINAL 40-YEAR-OLD VINYL THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN ORIGINALLY PLAYED ON A 40 YEAR OLD SYSTEM!!!!!
IMPORTANT NOTE! THIS HAS BEEN STORED IN A CASE LAYING DORMANT FOR AT LEAST 25 YEARS! A BUILD UP OF DIRT AND DUST IN THE GROOVES OVER THE YEARS CAUSES STATIC CRACKLE\TICKS! A CONSTANT CLEAN BEFORE EACH PLAY IS RECOMENDED! THIS REDUCES THIS STATIC AND ENHANCES THE AUDIO QUALITY!

MY GRADING SYSTEM:
We visually grade our records very strictly only under 100 watts bulb strong light.
Remember that some records regardless of condition can have occasional tiny tics.
Mint (M) Perfect Condition, which basically means that it is as good as new, literally. The vinyl has to look new and sound as though it was never played, and the cover has to look untouched. Some argue that the only mint records are brand new unopened ones still in their original packing.
Near Mint (NM) Vinyl is near perfect. At most, a light scuff appears on the record, but it should play without any noise or skips. The record sleeve should also be near perfect with only minor signs of wear. There should be no "ring wear" on the cover. (Ring wear is when the outline of the record inside shows through the sleeve.)
Excellent (EX) Vinyl should still play with no skips of any kind. There can be some very minor surface scuffs, but they should not affect the sound quality. The record sleeve can have some minor ring wear but it should be mostly in good shape. Also, there can be some minor creases in the corners but no splits in the seams.
Very Good+ (VG+) This is the grading category where the quality of the sound is affected -- there will be some surface noise -- and the vinyl will show wear, including surface scuffs and some light scratches. However, the record is still very listenable, as there are no deep scratches that cause skips. On the cover, the corners may be slightly bent, but not broken. There may be wear to the seams but not tears or holes.
Very Good (VG) Vinyl doesn't necessarily look good, but still plays well enough. Surface noise will probably be present, including pops and clicks. At higher volume levels, the music should overpower any pops and clicks present. There may be seam splitting, but not complete separation of the sleeve panels from each other. There will be noticeable ring wear on the cover, but the cover should for the most part still be in a intact condition.
Very Good- (VG-) Vinyl is well played and looks it. However, the record should still play without skipping. It will have substantial surface noise, pops and clicks. Loss of various parts of the dynamic range will occur due to worn grooves. This grade depends a lot on the owner and the type of records he or she collects. A rock record may still sound ok at a high volume, but quieter styles of music will be practically unlistenable. The record cover may have many problems including seam splits, tears, and writing on it.
Fair/Poor (F/P) Using the word fair for this quality of record is, in the opinion of JRS, too generous and not recommended since it may be misleading. Records described as fair (F) or Poor (P) in the Goldmine grading system are ones that are basically unlistenable. Surface noise, skips and pops make hearing what's on the record nearly impossible, if not completely impossible. The cover is falling apart, torn, and has writing all over it. The only reason we would sell a record like this it is extremely rare.
Important details will always be described under description in my listings.
