Led Zeppelin : Presence A1 / B1
This first pressing plays to a superb standard with no clicks or pops and no static or crackle either. The clarity is stunning on both sides.
As this is a genuine first press it has 'Made In UK' on the labels and Led Zeppelin and Presence are embossed on the front. The Apollo logo is also embossed on the back.
The gatefold is near perfect with no obvious wear. It is still so white with barely any marking and rarely seen as clean as this. The picture inner has a few faint marks but no side splits or tears.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a very healthy glossy sheen. There are no scratches and only a small number of faint hairlines. S1 in particular is in great condition and whilst S2 has a small number of faint 'specks' they have no affect on the audio at all. The run out grooves are very clean as are the labels which have only a little spindle wear.
Play grading
The quiet build up on 'Achilles Last Stand' plays with superb clarity as does the rest of the intro. It continues to play with great power and depth and having played every second of this 10 minute track I can categorically say there is no interference at all. One faint tick on the fade out but that hardly counts as interference! A Mint- start to the album.
'For Your Life' is very strong from the very first note and Jones' deep bass is very much in evidence - the sonic quality here is as impressive as it was when first released in '76. The playback cannot be faulted and again there are no ticks, clicks, pops, static or crackle. Another Mint- track.
In my opinion this was never the best produced of their catalogue and I do think 'Royal Orleans' is affected because of it. Yes final tracks often have some inner groove distortion but this track has too much of a 'tinny' sound in my opinion. Perhaps it is more due to the vinyl manufacture - I think the oil crisis of the mid 70s maybe had an affect? Regardless of that the track has no actual interference and will grade as Near Mint to be on the safe side.

For once the intro on 'Nobody's Fault But Mine' plays perfectly with no 'background' at all. As Bonham and Jones join in the audio is stunning and again there is such depth to bass here. It continues to play with no intrusion and the brief 'silent' sections are exactly - totally silent - and there just are no negatives here. The mid instrumental is so powerful and there is no distortion on the top end. To the end it plays with stunning quality and Mint- is richly deserved.
'Candy Store Rock' is of the same 'high end' standard and from start to finish plays with no interference. The sonic quality is so impressive and Mint- is fair.
'Hots On For Nowhere' again has no interference and the clarity and depth of the audio cannot be faulted. This is Mint- and there is no need to anymore!
The intro on 'Tea For One' is perfect and the first 'quiet' section has no 'background' of any kind. This is rare as there is generally some static etc but not here! The first vocal also plays with incredible clarity and not even a single tick let alone anything worse. The more it progresses the more I am impressed by the sheer quality of the audio. There are so many quiet passages and yet they all play with such outstanding precision. This truly is a breathtaking version and is easily one of the finest I have ever heard and I repeat, it is so so rare to find this classic track playing with such sublime clarity and definition. You will not be surprised that it grades as Mint- and provides a suitably stunning finale to the album.
In summary this first pressing plays to a fantastic standard from the first track to the last...especially the last! As I said before I don't think the sonic quality on this record is among their best but there is no denying the clarity and overall 'sound' of the audio. There are no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either which is a genuine rarity. A stunning album!
The Gatefold
This cover is in superb condition and is still so 'clean' considering how predominantly white it is. As is the case with the first pressings it has the band name and title embossed on the front cover and the Apollo logo embossed on the back. The edges and wide spine have no wear and there is no corner wear either - how rare is that?! The opening edge is pristine also. The front cover is so often marked with a lot of fading/staining around the edges but this is near perfect with only a small number of tiny 'specks' and one minor mark by the bottom edge. The back cover is just as good with only a couple of 'spots' and a tiny barely visible scuff next to the central picture. The inside of the gatefold is immaculate with no marking and overall this is a stunning example of cover.
The Picture Inner
The textured inner inner has no side splits or tears but does have 3/4 small marks on each side. Not quite as clean as the cover but it remains strong and has no creasing.
The Labels
The Swan Song labels are in great shape with no marking or writing and only a little spindle wear.
Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable // B & W 684 Speakers
This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
